I finally got an invitation to order.

I love this rosin.  I tried the original for the last two years. (gift)

I was able to order for myself this year.   I just ordered one and I tried the Vuillaume Citron.

I am at work.  I am eager to try it.

Interesting... I just read their recommended procedure for cleaning the bow hair prior to application of their rosin.  Are you going to do that prior to using?  Also, please do follow-up with your impressions of the difference between their Original and Citron formulations...  think I will fill out a member sheet too...

@micra I am going to clean my bow and strings and use the Baker's Citron exclusively.  I haven't had a chance.  The bow that I am using has mostly Bakers Original on it.

However I did get a sample of magic rosin and I think it is mixed in a couple of my bows.  (Magic rosin is nice by the way.. but SUPER STICKY)

I will see if I can discern a difference between the Bakers Brands.

PS... I forgot to add, that while buying the rosin, I lost an email and I was in jeopardy of not getting my order in time.  (They have strict criteria, because they promise that the rosin you get is at least 2 weeks fresh off the tree..)  Anyway, I had reason to correspond with the company and they ARE the nicest and so very professional, not too mention passionate about their customers, and product.  HIGH QUALITY SERVICE.1st-placethumbs-up1st-place

I got an invite as well! I ordered one of the original ones to try it! I was so excited because I've been on the list for the last 3 years! I can't wait to try it. I got it the other day but I haven't used it yet since my work schedule has been ridiculous

Thanks so much for the rosin Lindsey :)

I haven't had much of a chance to use it but I did test it right away when I received it. It seems to apply easily. Though I am used to dark rosin, this rosin seems to have a very good bite and no mess so far. One application might not be enough for me to tell though.

Whoot! I finally got to try this rosin. I got the origional version:D I cleaned as much of the old rosin as i could off my bow and I cleaned my strings and applied bakers rosin.

I must say it applied really easily! No need to scratch the surface or use a bunch of pressure. I did about 4 swipes down and back and began to play. I must admit that it made my violin sound much better. I'm not sure if it's because I cleaned everything off and I may have had an excess amount of rosin or if it really is the bakers but I am most assuradly a fan now!

when I opened the can I was first taken back. It looks almost clear, and having been used to dark rosins that are nearly black I wasn't sure if i would like it. I don't typically like the feel of light rosin but man this rosin has good grip and projection. For some reason it was easier for me to hear my notes.

This could be a kind of placebo effect from hearing such good things about bakers for so long and finally getting a cake of my own to try but I hands down love this rosin as of this moment :D

If anyone ever gets a chance to try it or buy a cake I say get some!!

That is great news. My problem is that I play so many test violins (about 10 a day) that I never play on my own personal violin anymore. LOL
I need to make an evaluation some time. :)

wow thats alot of different violins to play in a day! haha. I bet when you do get to play yours it's a sweet moment!

Looks like buissness is going good though with you own version of the violins! congradulations on that. If i can ever afford to upgrade again I'll definally be going for one of them!

Have a wonderful New Years!

Thanks for the kind words. Yes business is going well and we are getting a lot of praise for our new instruments. :)

rockinglr33 I love the rosin.

Keeping in mind that I don't play violin as an advanced student.  But I think the rosin is smooth and it makes less mess for me... and it last a long time and doesn't gunk up my strings.

I tried the other version this time. I like it just as well, and can't see to tell the difference.

I didn't clean my bows to test.  I do want to try that.

Both the Soloist and the Ming  like the rosin.

So it is my favorite rosin. I like it better than some of the dark rosin's I have tried.

When I play fast and do some upbeat stuff, I do thing the sticky Magic rosin is good stuff...however I would warn about over use of that stuff.. it stick like glue.

Those are my thoughts...

On a really funny note.. well not funny but a note.. my friend plays violin.. for 20 years... and she recently just used up one of her orginal cakes.... she doesn't clean bows, or strings.. or rosin that much... she plays like a DIVA... and so I think talent comes before rosin.... in  my experience.   :)

I've been on the list for at least a couple of years and this was the first time I received an invitation to buy some.  I got two of the Baker's Original, and I'm impressed with the quality.  I have been using the Andrea rosin, which was the best I had found up until now.  I like this stuff much better.  If you ever get a chance to get some, jump on it.

Talent definally comes before rosin! but itn's nice when the rosin makes you sound just a tad better haha. lol. ok I doubt it had THAT much influance but it was just a tad clearer. I just hope I get another invite an about 3 more years so maybe I'll be done with the cake by then and ready for another one!

@Uzi  I've been using the andrea solo rosin and it has definally become one of my favorites besides the bakers. Once I tried bakers though It definally set a new standard. If I somehow finish my rosin before I get another invite I will definally go back to it but I'll be using Bakers for now :D

rockinglr33  I agree... I am thankful for that tad bit of difference also.  Plus I am really digging the lack of build up  and dust.  I have a cake of Baker's that was gifted to me two years ago and a new one... I am set.  When I was talking to the "guy" sorry Baker guy... I forgot your name.. but he was so very very nice.   And there seemed to be an implication that "fresh" rosin was important.

He was super nice with me as well! He did seem to stress that to me too. I wonder if maybe the sound isn't quite so pure as it ages or if it gets more dusty as it drys out through the years? Would explain why other mass marketed rosins get more dust and build up then bakers seems to.  I'm not sure i'd ever notice much of a difference at my level unless the rosin just crumbled hahaha.

Ha ha.. same here ... I don't think I'd notice...and my Rosin from 2 years ago is pretty much still wonderful.  It did chip off a bit here and there. But it still leaves less dust and build up than regular.

I like the way it is packaged... the little cake and the little lid and all.. compact and cute.   :)  (Nothing wrong with liking the presentation too.. right... :)

This is going to be hard having to wait years to maybe get to try it, lol. I like the Pirastro rosin I use, but I'm always interested in trying new things like this.

I definally agree the little container and the scroll they attach to it is beautiful
