Hello everyone! Sorry I have not been able to comment on a lot of forum posts, it looks like the forum is moving too quick for me to keep up and read what everyone has to share :-P

However, I have a funny story to share with all of you. Last week I got on Ebay, after years of not getting on there to bid on auctions. This used to be a hobby of mine, buy random things at very cheap prices, or raise the prices for other bidders :-P. Well, guess what, I started bidding on random antique and new violins that I found posted. On most, I was just contributing to the economy, raising the prices for prospective buyers devil-violinI know that is mean of me, but let me tell you it is a lot of fun! Although, one of this days, I will end up being the highest bidder on something I won't really be willing to drop the cash on, LOL.

Anyhow, I randomly got lucky on a violin, that I happened to bid 20 buck on, and long and behold, I ended up winning the auction!!! So...am getting this violin, which has been shipped to me via Fedex from California and it should arrive tomorrow (according to Fedex). As I said, it cost me $20.50 plus $65.00 shipping (the shipping is where this seller gets you...I guess), so I really don't know what to expect...from the pictures and description from the seller, it is a very nice violin. So am anxious to see it in person.

I wasn't really expecting to win it, since I usually get outbid in the last few minutes, but I guess I got lucky...or maybe not :-)

When it arrives, I will update this post and share with all of you my thoughts.

My grandfather used to like bidding on things at auctions to drive the prices up.  Then he ended up buying a horse.

Looking forward to seeing how this violin turns out!

Yeah, I have a friend that has a tanning bed in their basement they have never used from ebay because they were doing the same thing. It cost them over 1000.00

Good Luck with your new/antique Violin.

Worse case you can always put it back up on Ebay and hope someone does the same thing for you.

I don't know if the seller gets you with shipping. Shipping a violin costs at least $15 within the states if you have a company account. Outside of the country can be extremely expensive.

Where is this shipping to?

I am sure glad when the FM put the first fiber carbon bow on ebay, you didn't do that to me. When he put the second one up, I was going to bid, but Bshalom got it like a lightning even before i saw the listing.

I bought two instruments from ebay, the first one was a piece of junk, i learned my lesson and did buy any thing for four or five years; and the second one was a piece of crab. Hmm....Have I really learned my lesson? My needle work encyclopedia book and my cb bow were my best buy! I used them a lot!

Any way, good luck on your winning! Since the shipping is so expensive, i supposed this violin is ether shipped from German or China? Keep us posted.

Let me answer some questions :-) The violin is being shipped from California to good ol' Missouri. It is being shipped via Fedex. It is supposed to come with a case and bow. But still, not sure how that justifies the $65.00. However, it is supposed to be a two day shipping, since it was shipped on the 13th, and according to Fedex tracking, it should arrive today, not sure at what time. Maybe the seller gets some of his money back, when these are shipped to him from China???

@CGBownut I would so put that tanning bed to good use! :-) However, I usually bid on things that I sort of want, I would never bid on things that I would not find a use for, or could resell. But yeah, one of these days, I will learn my lesson :-P

I won't make any assumptions until I have it on my hands, but for $85.00 am not expecting much, but you never know. According to the seller, he gets these violins made overseas (probably China), and he adjusts these in his shop.

Also, this happens to be a brand new one, so we will see how it turns out. Am still wondering whether Fedex will deliver it today.

@FM from what I can read, you have posted items on eBay for sale before? I know you have your site, and I have gotten a Cecilio from you already, but if your site allowed bidding, it would make things a lot of fun! Have you ever thought about buying old/antique violins, cleaning these up and putting them on eBay or other site for auction? I would so bid on these!

Good one! I'm sure the FM will have a lot more bussiness! He did put two bows on ebay, that was before he opened his fiddlershop.

Maybe. There is a lot to think about. Maybe even Ebay will bring people to Fiddlershop.

We buy a lot of equipment from horseloverz,.com, which is an equine supply and equipment shop, they also sell on ebay and have a very large bussiness now.  I think mostly they sell overstock and items which aren't moving well on ebay.

you're not selling on e-bay? and driving traffic to your off-site store (fiddlershop.com)?

Well, first things first, the violin did arrive safe and sound, the seller took off the bridge for safekeeping, which I think it is a good idea. The sound post stayed in place. Not sure what kind of strings it comes with, but these sound descent. The violin came with a nice student case, however, no bow. I emailed the seller right away, and he called me minutes after I sent him the email, and since he had other violins for sale, for which he was not including a bow, he admitted he made a mistake and forgot to include a bow. He even offered to give me a small refund, but I rejected, since I did get one heck of a deal! he said his violins usually go for about 300-400 bucks, if not more. If I got a gem with the Cecilio CVN500, this violin is a diamond! He said he would make it up to me and give me a discount on the next purchase or throw a bow at a later purchase, since it was probably a cheap student bow. Like I said, I told him not to worry about it, the Cecilio came with two bows, so am not complaining. Plus, am planning on getting a carbon fiber bow from FM.

Anyhow, I won't go on, I will let the pictures speak for themselves, I have played it already, and it stays in tune very well. It is even easier to tune than the Cecilio! I am so keeping this one! $85 well spent, I'd say!
