Seems to be a good purchase Ferret.  Read somewhere that if you play loud double stops in a new violin, it will get set quickly.  Not sure.  Pierre will have more to say. What about the song in an Erhu?

Playing loud and hard, chords, double stops, anything that gets the violin to vibrate in different frequencies is good for opening up the sound and reaction of the violin.

What is your take on breaking in a violin. I tend to believe that during a break in period the glue joints and the varnish fracture allowing the violin to vibrate properly.

Sounds right to me. :-)
Not sure about the glue joints though. Definitely the varnish.
