It looks to me like cushioning material is expanded polypropylene (epp). Godin, a guitar maker in Canada, makes guitar cases using the same material. They do not make it. SKB also does not make it. I found a German violin case maker, xkolar, using epp. But the design is totally different from that pictured.

Hi Irv, how've you been?
I've also seen these cases referred to as "Thermo-plastic".
Wm. Lewis & Son, German-made student violins were popular throughout the midwest (especially the 60's-70's) - were sold in cases exactly like your photo.
I only know they had a facility in Ohio, where all their violins had the set up done. But when I looked it up in Wikipedia, my search led me ⇒ to different info about Chicago ⇒ to Paulson & Co. buying out "Steinway Musical Instruments" ⇒ in Elkhart (Indiana), Cleveland and Eastlake (Ohio)!
If you can find someone that knows about or worked at one of those facilities, during that time period, I'm sure you'll have an answer.
I've also seen a couple other German-made student violins with these cases on eBay.
"JOHANNES KOHR 3/4 VIOLIN VIOLA CASE AND BOW 1977 WESTERN GERMANY"
"Vtg Antique BAUSCH VIOLIN w/ Bow - Student Instrument Practice Classic W Case"
Found that "Bellafina" makes a similar case - but with aluminum protecting the rims.
If I have more time later, I'll see if I can't find more info.

Hello @ELCBK et. al. Thank you for the hints on how to get a case similar to the picture.
I have not done much of interest recently relating to the violin. I did use the hide of a cane toad to grip a bow (the animal has a poison gland behind the eye which made an excellent point of reference for thumb placement and should wear like iron).

...actually, I was just hoping to get you closer to someone who might know who manufactured those violin cases.
That bow is THE BEST conversation piece! Just frame it and hang it near the Dining table. (lol)
My 1st thought that came to mind was, "those things are poisonous!" and wondered, "is this an April Fools joke?" - but people tan snake & lizard hides, so...
Did you tan the hide yourself?
Freaky, cool!

@ELCBK . Not an April fool’s joke. The hide was purchased from an Australian merchant. It was rather difficult to get the gland at the proper point and the splice point on the bottom of the stick. I made a xerox copy of the hide and used it to make a mock-up. The hide was secured with ordinary carpenter’s glue.
