Should I change my old unknown strings to new cheap strings?

I let a friend borrow my violin several years ago since I wasn't playing it anyway. When she returned it she said a string broke so she had them all replaced. She prolly put decent strings on it. Now I'm learning to play again. I have a set of very cheap (Vizcaya) strings that I got free with a shoulder rest. I wonder should I replace the old unknown with the new set. At this point I'm looking for the most forgiving strings. Less bad sound rather than better sound, if that makes sense.

Hi Goon, maybe a picture of the strings you have on now would enable someone to identify the make? You should include the colour of the windings at each end.

I'll try:

Is that file too big? What size is best?

They look like they may be Dominant strings, but they can be fake Dominants too.

Please understand the not every issue can be cured by buying better strings. Sometimes the violin is too aggressive for any strings.
