Both Lorna and I recently upgraded from fibre glass to a FM fusion bows, along with new strings, which made a tremendous difference to our playing, or rather the sound of our playing!

I'm liking the reviews of the coda bows. Since the first upgrade made a big difference does anyone know if another upgrade would make such a big difference? Since its a bigger investment...

Has anyone used or got one they play with?

thanks!

I'm hesitant to say since upgrades don't usually make a "tremendous" difference but bad strings vs good strings do and a bad bow vs a good bow does. But your fusion bows are good.
That is to say that yes, a better bow will make a difference, but the amount of difference is relative and very hard to describe.
If you are interested in an even better bow, let me suggest an in-home trial.

aha - so its kinda like if I was running in flip-flops and jeans and made the change to shorts and trainers/tennis shoes....and now it's a choice of nikes or brooks or under armor, or whatever, the difference being more personal fit and selection...

Yeah you think I was a runner huh! - Nada, too busy trying to learn fiddle...cheerleader

Although I do bike, and I think keeping fit helps - both lorna and I have tons of energy, drives our husbands nuts! They both pretty chilled out...

Mine is happy that I disappear over the other side of our home every night and go crazy on the fiddle as it gives him time to watch all those action shows on TV without me asking what happened every 5 minutes!...

I have a Coda bow, 2 FM carbon fiber bows and a FM pernambuco bow.  The Coda is prettier and plays well. While it is a nice bow, I don't think it's 4 times as good, but it is at least 4 times the price.  I think if your looking for a bow upgrade, a better bang for the buck would be one of the FM pernambuco bows. I have one of those as well and it's really nice for the price and produces a better sound -- IMHO.

UZI - I am so agreeing with you at this point.... I def focusing on sound and feel, not worried about looks.

I got a trial coda bow (after reading tons of reviews) and I've been playing with it for most of the evening, it feels amazing, weight and grip - but even though its a nice pure sound, softer, with a much lighter feel, its a touch "mechanical" if thats the word?

My husband and daughter both prefer my FM fusion bow for now, (in their blind test) maybe because I can get a more gutsy? sound out of it, me too right now!

Go figure!......Maybe I didn't rosin it enough, and maybe being super careful with it since its on trial...anyways I'm going to keep trying through tomorrow and rest of week, and test with maybe my violin teacher and couple of friends before I make a decision....because, gosh I'll have to keep this one forever!

In that case, I hope you get the Codabow. ;)
Just kidding. Only get it if you feel that it's worth it. dancinbunny

Un-rosined bows can be misleading which is why I sometimes wish that we would pre-rosin all bows. We simply don't because some players don't want to mix their rosin with whatever is on the bow. They feel that their rosin is the best and that's the one they want to use.
I use any rosin and will gladly mix. I personally feel that the rosin in which you apply last will dominate if not right away, soon enough.

I wouldn't mind if a bow came pre rosined....  But I do like the anticipation while getting that first good coat on the bow.... it is a simple pleasure.
