A friend of mine recently gave me a violin. The label reads "Carlo Lamberti AV800". I haven't been able to find out much about it. Fiddleshop sells them but I think the use a different code "LV XX". Is there a correspondece between the AV800 and some of the LV XX?

Since there's a Carlo Lamberti LV20, it might be that, if that "XX" is treated as Roman numerals. When you take the pictures, try to get a couple of good shots of the label inside. That should make it fairly easy to identify (to an expert like Pierre).

I used LVXX as an example for the new code numbers. Inside it only reads AV800. My guess is that would be what they call LV12, but it just based on the fact that AV1000 used to be the one that costed 1000 dollars and the LV12 costed 800 in 2002 (using internet wayback machine)

I don't really recognize it. Might be an older model. The important thing is that you like it and that it produces a nice sound.

Yes "Carlo Lamberti" is a Shar name. The instruments come from Chinese workshops. Shar runs a separate distributorship as well, so the Carlo Lamberti brand is available at some retailers. Carlo Lamberti might come from several different workshops but we don't really know.
