Just wondering what the signs are for needing new strings??
Also wondering how do you know when your bow needs to be re-haired?
I have not lost any hairs but i suspect it gets worn out...

Strings that are going bad don't resonate as long and don't sound as good. My first set I replaced at 8 months, when I replaced them it was wow the old ones were horrible. It is tough to tell without something to compare it with. As for bow hair I think it is when it falls out.
@ johnnyblaze: If your string's have a dead sound, no resonance, it's time to change them. I myself try to change string's approx. every 4 months's or so, but I play a lot.
Try washing your bow hair's in regular rubbing alcohol, I use 91% which I buy at the local pharmacy. There is a video on YouTube on how to do it.

If you have a wood bow, you need to be very careful not to get the alcohol on the wood stick.
