I'd still think of a godmother as close enough to family. After all, she was close enough to give you a violin when you wanted one, wasn't she?
But different folks are different. <shrugs>
Looks almost like some of the finish came off the back. parts of it don't look quite as red as they did, unless it is just the lighting.
Cleaned up pretty. Definitely looks like someone played her a lot at some point.
The nut doesn't look from the pics like it was shaped much. Have to wonder if that might have been a home repair many years ago.

the nut is grooved enough, i just cleaned it off before i took the pic i believe its ivory and its just really shiny so when i took the picture the flash reflected off it making it look smooth

What I mean is it looks like it is mostly square, instead of the top being a curve that runs off into the pegbox.
