It's impossible to say how much it will cost to fix - how much of a repair do you want? Just gluing up the crack will be one price, and touching up the varnish will be another. Only your luthier can tell you.
OTOH, a one pound package of hide glue is less than $10.00 even with shipping if you want to do it yourself...

Anyone have had any experiences with Titebond Liquid Hide Glue? Found it on Sears website. The nearest Sears with tools is a hour away. Our local Sears is only has big appliances so I doubt they will have any.

Some people like it, but others claim that it has a shelf life and if it's old it won't do a proper job. Preparing hot hide glue really isn't a big deal and the crystals will store in a tightly-sealed glass jar for years.

Is there a brand of hide glue you recommend or direct me to where I can find some.
International Violin sells good hide glue.

(Going back to the original title to this forum) I think open seams do affect the sound of a violin by my own observation. I just got a Snark Sn-2 All Instrument clip-on tuner and it is reading the strings one note lower on open strings. Also if I get this fixed how much would it cost me?
I had EXACTLY the same thing with my violin. Fixed it with epoxy.. But don't know if this is good or bad Though it works. But my violin is very cheap - so i don't feel sorry about anything i do with it.....
