Finally got a chance to look at that website. I'm  going to try to go to the Irish/Celtic Week - July 22-27,2012 at Augusta Heritage Ctr., Davis & Elkins College, Elkins, WV.

The Fiddle Camp idea sounds fantastic! I love traveling, and Florida is my fave vacation spot. This means, I have to practice more, for when the time comes! Am in!

West Virginia sounds good to me.

If we do it in Florida we should do it when a lot of you have time off plus when the weather is best. Nov - April. A lot of you would appreciate some sun and fun :-)

(Going back to the original title to this forum) I think open seams do affect the sound of a violin by my own observation. I just got a Snark Sn-2 All Instrument clip-on tuner and it is reading the strings one note lower on open strings. Also if I get this fixed how much would it cost me?

It's impossible to say how much it will cost to fix - how much of a repair do you want? Just gluing up the crack will be one price, and touching up the varnish will be another. Only your luthier can tell you.

OTOH, a one pound package of hide glue is less than $10.00 even with shipping if you want to do it yourself...

You should loosen up those strings right away. With a seam separation like that the pressure is pulling it further apart and you don't want that.

Anyone have had any experiences with Titebond Liquid Hide Glue? Found it on Sears website. The nearest Sears with tools is a hour away. Our local Sears is only has big appliances so I doubt they will have any.

Some people like it, but others claim that it has a shelf life and if it's old it won't do a proper job. Preparing hot hide glue really isn't a big deal and the crystals will store in a tightly-sealed glass jar for years.

I would stay away from the tightbond liquid hind glue. I tried it once and it didn't have the holding strength of regular hind glue. Like Cat says, it's easy to make and to use.

I had EXACTLY the same thing with my violin. Fixed it with epoxy.. But don't know if this is good or bad dunno Though it works. But my violin is very cheap - so i don't feel sorry about anything i do with it.....
