For Christmas I received a Kun Seven shoulder rest.  I have used a Kun since I was in school, and most recently a Kun collapsable.   The Kun Seven is a stunning shoulder rest, but I am not 100% sure if I like it more than my Kun collapsable rest.  It does fit tighter on my violin with no chance of coming off, but it just feels different.  It could be that I'm just used to my old shoulder rest, and it will take time to adjust to the new one?  Does anyone use the Kun Seven? Was there a breaking in period for you?

@Kennon -

That's really cool (hadn't seen it before)!

It's VERY different, so no wonder it doesn't feel the same as your old shoulder rest.

Did you see the video at Fiddlershop - about ways to adjust it?

What I can't tell - does it make your violin set much higher off your shoulder?

Thought my wood-version of the 'Performa' Viola rest was expensive, but the 'Kun Seven' is quite the sticker shock!  Still, I'm sure finding 'the right' shoulder rest is worth it.

@ELCBK  The rest does have the violin sit higher up, so that is probably why it feels so different.  There are three different piece you can use to adjust the height, and I am using the lowest one (which is what is on the rest when it arrives) but it does still make it higher than my old Kun.

I do like how adjustable it is and you can bend it to match your shoulder.

Yes, it was expensive. But not as much as the Pirastro KorfkerRest!

I have been using a Kun for the last year, and just got a Pirastro Korfker for Christmas. The violin also sits up a bit higher on that one as well (though I could get the shorter legs). It's am actually just starting to get used to it now.

I think it just takes time to adjust if it's not causing problems.

Thanks Sasha, When I was practicing last night, it did feel better, so maybe it does just take time.  I am also on a weight loss journey and have lost 31lbs so far, so it could also be what is helping to allow more space!

Congratulations, though I suspect that I am finding the weight that you are losing! :O

If it's not too much fill between your jaw and the violin, you'll just need time to get used to the difference. If the minimum filling is too much, you might not be doing yourself a favor by waiting to get used to it. The last thing that you want to do is get neck pain. Make sure you're relaxed when holding your instrument.

Most likely, you'll love it in a week or so. Depends on how much you play.
How is the connection/fit?

@Fiddlerman I have not noticed any pain, or discomfort. I actually like it now after using it for a bit. I think I was just so used to my old Kun that it seemed off.

Losing some of the weight helped as well! LOL

By the way, I am LOVING my Holstein Pernambuco bow!  I should have just spent the money and bought it when I bought my violin from you!  Great sound and gorgeous bow!

That is very common. When a person switches to a new product that is different from what they had before, it takes a while to get used to it even if it might be better. Glad that you like it now.

That's for sure.

Thank you so much for letting me know. That is music to my ears. Glad that you love it!!!
