I am not sure, but, you know those little moisture absorbent packs in items you buy, ie purses, meds, etc? Well, usually they are still dry, so able to absorb. Why throw them out? Place them in your instrument cases sheet music drawers, etc?

Actually, along that line, anywhere in the house you might have moisture.mSure they are little, but it will absorb, and if you add to it, as you get them, there you go. You have to be cautious if you have kids. DO NOT PLACE THEM WHERE THEY CAN GET THEM. Little packets do attract little tykes. I don't have any little thkes round hear, and no pets, so I am good.

Ooh, place them with your printer paper storage.

Great suggestion!  After moving to the deep south from the high-desert in Idaho,  humidity is always a concern!

I read about using these for other things to keep moisture put a couple years ago. I figured, why not music cases, sheet music storage, and then though ot where you store your printer paper. They are small, but they are expected to keep the inside of shipments humid free, large purses humid free, and you could always use more than one, as you get them. So, not my original idea. I just added to what I read a couple years ago. I wanted to make that clear, not my original idea, folks.

Sometimes, I think things are over thought. Just my opinion. Think about all the things people use and have no idea what they are made of.

All you have to do is toss them out when you think they are used. They aren't meant for long time use. If you are in a humid area, every little bit helps.

I wasn't talking about going out and buying anything for major dehumidifying, I was just talking about if you come across one in something you bought.

I have used this material for many years, mainly to absorb moisture to keep items dry and prevent rusting. Larger containers of this stuff are commonly used in gun cabinets, and I have used them for long-term storage of cars. They can be restored to their dry condition by placing them in a low temperature oven for a while.

But I hadn’t thought of using the little-bitty packages to keep things humidified. Maybe soak them in water, let them dry for a day or so, and put them in your fiddle case.

I have instrument cases that have the little hygrometers, but I don’t know if they give accurate readings or if they’re just there for show.

For certain, I would hate to have an instrument damaged by too much or too little humidity!

I don't know if you were actually thinking, "keep things humidified" with these, or misunderstood. I was talking dehumidifying. I don't think you can humidify with them.

I tend to not be so concerned about the instrument. YIKES! I hear you all stepping on the breaks! Let me continue. I don't travel with my instruments. Trust me, no hotel wants me playing in my room. My instruments are hanging on a very well made wall rack. They are fine. I am talking about your cases. I have plenty, way more than I do instruments. Not sure how that happened! But, they are just stored.

I have purchased old violins with cases, and those cases could use those packs inside. It can get humid here and the unused room is given airflow and opened windows, when appropriate, and a fan blowing the air that has come from an A/C'ed area, etc, but, we did not spend money on an A/C unit for that unused room. It stays cool, but not as regulated.

We go in there regularly, but it is mostly storage with shelving units for sewing supplies, knitting machine supplies, water color, empty cases, etc. Placing those packets in those cases, and maybe with some of the other things, and change them out periodically, is a good second use for them.

They are just small and I don't believe they are meant for, or will cover, large areas.
