I have used this material for many years, mainly to absorb moisture to keep items dry and prevent rusting. Larger containers of this stuff are commonly used in gun cabinets, and I have used them for long-term storage of cars. They can be restored to their dry condition by placing them in a low temperature oven for a while.
But I hadn’t thought of using the little-bitty packages to keep things humidified. Maybe soak them in water, let them dry for a day or so, and put them in your fiddle case.
I have instrument cases that have the little hygrometers, but I don’t know if they give accurate readings or if they’re just there for show.
For certain, I would hate to have an instrument damaged by too much or too little humidity!
