Does it add weight to the peg? It's certainly harder than ebony. It would look even better with a more frosted look, in my opinion.
Someone recently showed me a picture of their late grandmother's fiddle. It had dice-headed pegheads. They were squared, had the dots carved in and were even painted white.

@Amateur . The glass heads are bead blasted. The sloped area were grounded in an abrasive slurry and applied with grease to provide a water tight seal with a mating glass surface. Modern glassware uses a plastic or Teflon peg.
They would be much heavier than wood.
