Another edition of my mutant series.  It took me a while to determine how the string holes were drilled in the glass pegs.  These are used in burette cylinders to pour out precise quantities of fluids.ADAEC7C8-9B53-4C6D-945D-E4707E63EEC1.jpegImage Enlarger

@bocaholly and others.  Modified spelling in my original post and provided a photo for comparison.7F9F71E6-5067-4B1E-93A2-DC5734CFB6EC.jpegImage Enlarger

Does it add weight to the peg? It's certainly harder than ebony. It would look even better with a more frosted look, in my opinion.

Someone recently showed me a picture of their late grandmother's fiddle. It had dice-headed pegheads. They were squared, had the dots carved in and were even painted white.

@Amateur .  The glass heads are bead blasted.  The sloped area were grounded in an abrasive slurry and applied with grease to provide a water tight seal with a mating glass surface.  Modern glassware uses a plastic or Teflon peg.

They would be much heavier than wood.

Very interesting indeed Irv. I suppose you need to make sure that their are no sharp edges in those holes. LOL
