I saw a video of Gordon Stobbe and it looked like the violin was supported by his neck. It looked like a chin rest that fit his neck. Is there such a thing?

Was the rest "under" the violin resting on his chest ? If that's the case, it's called a "shoulder" rest.

Um how about posting a link to the video that you are referring to?

If you're talking about his Pelican Reel video, it looks like he may have a Bonmusica shoulder rest on his fiddle.  Fiddlerman here sells them, look for them under accessories/shoulder rests and see if you think that's what it is.

The dvd I am talking about is his "twelve things your right hand should know" and it looks like it comes out of the end of the violin
