I have been offline for a while, but recently decided it was time to start my second violin build project. My first project was a kit from StewMac, here's my previous thread about that build.

I ordered this kit from Maderas Barber in Spain, because it looks to be the next step in progression. It comes lightly glued, but will need final shaping, purfling, graduating, bass bar, neck, etc.

This will allow me to acquire the next set of tools without having to dump a ton of money for everything needed to build from bare wood.

Here are some photos of the kit straight out of the box. (Not sure why all but the 1st photo rotated 180 deg)

This is a "Stradivarius" model, first up is to decide shaping for the edges and corners, then to cut the purfling groove (after I buy a purfling groove cutter)

Very neat. It has to be pure joy to play one that you built.

It doesn't seem to have much of a belly, or do you shape it to increase its belly?

It's really more than it appears in the pictures. I think the camera distorted it a bit and the unfinished edge really looks much bigger than it is also.
