A little update of what's going on. I now put the violin in the living room about 2 hours before I start my practice/playing section (I can't have it there all the time unfortunate.), with a open case. It doesn't work good, its still pretty slippery. Its really frustrating, cuz I'm loosing practice time (or in some cases like today and yesterday also days.). I really hope this isn't getting worse the closer we get till winter.

I thought of trying some water drops today, but I kinda ran out of time. I forgot about it earlier, so I haven't be able to try it yet. So I have to wait for tomorrow (and by then I probably forget it, again...)

I'm really surprised at the number of posts regarding shrinking and loosening pegs!

I have all three of mine in the house, that ranges from mid60's F in the evening to upper 70's F in the daytime, winter here so the humidity is much higher than it was during summer and I have ZERO issues with slipping pegs.

Granted, I have a peg trimmer and a reamer of proper taper and have 'touched up' my violins to insure they are in tip-top shape but really, I don't even notice a change like is noted in the tune from one week to the next, much less on a daily basis.

Interesting.

One has Zyex strings (synthetic core so humidity shouldn't affect them)

One has a combo of Helicore and Dominant (same deal as above)

One has Preludes (steel core, maybe slightly temp sensitive but not for humidity)

One has ebony pegs, one has rosewood, one has plastic (I think)

Such a variety of materials and conditions, without issues... I guess I'm just lucky.

Thank you, Daniel - tried the drop of water thing and was able to tune a few minutes after, without the peg unwinding in front of me. Have needed to repeat twice today but it is a very old instrument. - belonged to my husband's father and has been neglected for at least forty years. Now that I convinced him to have the thing refurbished, I must learn to play it. Lol - the piano and guitar are a lot more forgiving towards amateurs!
