There is a new article I wrote about acquiring my Grampa s Fiddle in the Members Articles, accessible in the menu bar above the forum. I am posting photos of what it looks like now here,  with a link to the article.

Here is the article link:

Grampa's Folk Fiddle

Since the article, I have had it refurbished and is now playable. These two bottom photos were not in the article. This was done after I wrote the article.

When I can read the sheet music, I will make a video for y'all.

I'd say that luthier did a remarkable job! What a great find and addition to your family!

Thank you. I could not believe that when my brother told me about that that I actually found one! He was over last week and saw and heard it. He was thrilled.

And, yes, the luthier did a great job.

I sure did find a treasure, ELCBK. I can't wait to get the glasses I need to read my sheet music so I can make a video with it.

Thats a great story, and its a lovely looking fiddle, he was a really good maker it looks almost french but obviously isnt, if that was broken up before the luthier got hold of it he did a great job, you are very fortunate.

It was like the photos at the bottom of the article. The photos above are after the luthier at the violin shop was finished. The basic violin body was just freshened up. The neck was weird because it was it was hollow or something, again, he used what he had. The luthier filled it with sawdust held together with glue. If I remember correctly, that is waht the luthier said.

I was going to change the strings a couple months ago, but it sounded great when I took it down to do it. I decided to wait. I think my playing got better since I played it last,  and therefore, it sounded better, LOL. I play it more now because I have been doing violin more. Which one, between the Fiddlershop and this depends in the piece I am playing. It is weird.

Your intonation is very good for what thats worth coming from me, the way to make it sound better again, as I am sure fiddlerman himself would tell you, is to be able to add a touch of vibrato, not to mask any intonation mistakes, which incidentally you dont have, but to round the sound out.

If you dont have vibrato at all, to me it sounds square, and I cant even explain what I mean by that.

So there you go, I think you are sounding great;)

@stringy, I really do appreciate what you say. if you listen to the Parker violin version, there were a few spits where I attempted a tad bit of vibrato. I am not used to itnon a violin. I could do it on the cello, but a completely different action on the violin. Need to work on it.

I really appreciate it. I thought I was way off through most of the two versions. Thanks.
