does first position (for the g string) start on A or G#?

and where do the rest of the positions start? would 2nd position for the g string be the same as playing first position on the d string?

First position is 1st finger on the G# or Ab, same note then slide it up for the A natural depending on what you need, then 2nd finger on Bb and B natural then 3rd finger on the C and C# or Bb (same note)

Download my free FINGERBOARD CHART, print it and study it.

Also, you can start playing the basic level of the VIOLIN FINGERING GAME.

Good luck.afro

Second position starts with the first finger playing B on the G string, F for the D string, C - A string, and G - E string. Of course using the sharps and flats where necessary.

Third position uses 1st finger for playing C on the G, G on the D, D on the A and A on the E

And so on and so on.......
