Because of shoulder pain that has started by the position of the violin, I had to go back to using a chin rest which puts my jaw back on the left side of the tailpiece. No problem with Vanessa, just put it on. But I had "goop"ed a part of a small clothes pin onto Jane as a help to keep the violin from sliding away when down-shifting so to put on a chin rest, that had to come off. I had used Goop because I thought I could take it back off without damage. I was wrong. It took off the varnish down to the wood. A couple months ago I started making my own chin rest but that project got side-tracked. It now becomes more important. I'm just now finishing a review of 6 sets of strings so I'll be able to focus when that's done.
Btw, I just got some Jade rosin. WOW what a difference. Completely changed my opinion on some strings, just by changing rosin.
Uzi, did you say you were able to get a half cake of Andrea rosin?

Dang!
Yeah, you could probably touch that up with some varnish, but getting the colour to match precisely so nobody could ever tell it happened.. maybe not.
Hmm.. Maybe hide it in a different way. Cut an oddly shaped little bit of brass or trim down an imitation abalone guitar pick or something to make it look like some unusual customization, and if anybody asks, act like *everybody* knows about those..
"Huh? Oh that.. That's a tone patch, they give the violin just a little more sustain when you're playing B# or F flat notes in the higher registers. Doesn't your violin have one? Heck, I thought everybody had them these days. All the pros use 'em. y'know.."
"This young wine may have a lot of tannins now, but in 5 or 10 years it is going to be spectacular, despite the fact that right now it tastes like crude oil. You know this is how it is supposed to taste at this stage of development." ~ Itzhak Perlman

Thanks Uzi, I'll get some. $40 just to try it out is a little pricey for the whole cake. $20 is more justifiable. But I would rather buy from FM.
LOL Daniel, I would never try to hide any mistake made on Jane, it's what gives her character. I keep thinking if I can make this hunk of junk sound good, just think what I could do with a good violin. LOL But having said that she is a very prized possession.
And I don't play a lot of songs in b#. In fact I just pass by the songs in 5# or 5 flats. I would pass out for lack of oxygen by the time I worked my way through a tune. Today I worked on "Your cheatin heart".....that's about the extent of my technical ability right now. Trying to remember stuff like: vamp, bridge, turn-around, etc.
