To get to know your violin, the sound post is very important...Here is some pretty good reading for those of us that want to learn more about our violin's sound post:

This is exactly right MGN. The sound-post is like the heart of a violin. That is why I often say that you should get the sound-post checked, moved and if necessary refitted by a luthier. It makes an enormous difference.
I moved the sound-post in almost every fiddle I received from KKmusic and can't blame them either because you can't send a violin somewhere with loosened strings and expect the sound-post to stay put. You can write FRAGILE all over the box and it will still get thrown around.
