So, I needed to send my violin in to Fiddlershop for some maintenance.  I still had a Fiddlershop shipping box, but I could not find the cardboard bridge support that they include with an instrument when they ship it to you.  So, I thought that’s ok, I’ll just make one. I added a piece of foam to help keep it in place (pic below).

After several attempts (many, many times screwing up by cutting it too short), I got one done.  Afterward, I checked online (searched “shipping violin with bridge protection”), and then saw Fiddlerman made a video back in 2013 on how to make one.

Would have saved myself a lot of time (and cardboard) had I searched for this first.  Wanted to share.  So, don’t be a doofus like me – watch the video first:

Just fyi—in the video, he uses some tape – they now use toothpick-like sticks with grooves in them to hold it in place.  Attached pics of my returned violin with how Fiddlershop does it now.

Great post. I got lucky when I had to send my Lord Wilton Violin in. I actually still had the bridge protector. I was sure I did save it, but was also sure that I probably just "meant" to save it, if you know what I mean. I kept my boxes, too. These are definitely keeper boxes.

Yeah, I think I saved it, too--but I evidently saved it in a really secure place, because I couldn't find it.  I'll find it when I'm looking for something else smile

Yes, they are Keeper Boxes, for sure.
