The only thing I don't understand Fred is how the filter helped?

Active charcoal is very active, you see. Absorbs all kinds of impurities.

BTW, I've been following this adventure with avid interest and am happy to hear the smell (spell) has been banished! Go forum!

I well aware of how charcoal filters absorb air impurities but I can't understand how that helped when you were blowing air through one f-hole out the other. I can see it helping if you didn't want those impurities being blown into your home.smile

In any case, the important thing is that it worked and can help others with drunks inside their instruments.

thumbs-up

I have absolutely no idea Denny.  This was one of my better buys on ebay and it was sold by a Pawn shop in Philly.  It honestly smelled like a skid row drunk used it as a gas mask for the past couple of years.

But, just played with it last night and "odorous freedomous".

Btw, I'm taking this viola and my best recent purchases (4 violins & 4 bows) up to LA today to one of the top two appraisers on the West Coast.  I'm attending a two day seminar and will pick them up on Friday; I can't freakin wait to hear his opinion.

I'll give ya'll (just made some genuine Fort Worth friends last weekend and they've rubbed off on me) an update on the outcome!
