Hey, not to change the subject, but I just found this really interesting Smithsonian Magazine article about a Civil War soldier that turned his violin into a diary of his travels during the war.

He inscribed the place names on the back of the violin. Though not exactly the same, it brought to mind our Traveling Community Violin. Thought folks might be interested.

Cool. Thanks Diane,

Wonder where the fiddle is right now? Being examined for by Canadian Customs for drugs???? I hope no one ever has to pay duty on this fiddle.

Probably FM. My current main violin took a whole week to get through customs from japan.

I want in on this, but I need to be at the end of the list so my shoulder can heal first. Otherwise I would just be giving the fiddle a tour of Kansas without getting any actual playing time on it.dazed

If it's not been through Georgia yet, I'd volunteer.

I am on the list.

I am going to a family reunion this summer. We are all meeting in South Dakota (the middle for everyone). If need be, I can plan to receive out little artifact sometime prior to then and deliver it to someone somewhere along the journey from Western Oregon. I love the idea of multiple people here pictured with it at the same time.

"Registration" is still open for signing up for the fiddler!  I am not sure that it will ever really close so please send me your info it is NOT too late to get in on the action! :D

@dionysia as there isn't really and "end" to the list per se how long do you think you'll need to be operational?

Fifi Has informed me that the Traveler has Arrived in BC safe and Sound and I look forward to her making posts about it in the near future.

@Pierre I think we should have a link from the home page to the official traveler page that way everyone can find it.

-Dennis

<Edit> Just found the Link to it on the news page.  Good write up thanks Pierre!  Still think we should have a link somewhere where less digging my be required.  But I will leave that to people with more technological know-how than me! done

I just made a YouTube channel for the Travelling Fiddle so people can upload their videos to it, just in case some folks don't have a YouTube channel for uploading. The channel is TravellingFiddle2013. I will PM Dennis and Pierre the password, and Fifi - maybe you can put a note in the case with the info?

Dennis - I hope to be able to play again by mid to late April. Tendons are slow healers. frown

@dionysia

Beautiful Idea!  Not just because it gives people a place to post their vids. but because it also gives us a central location where all the vids can be found on the web easily. Fifi don't worry I should be getting that e-mail to you very soon!  Many problems with the car and stressful days at work that have me coming home and passing out almost instantly.

Also as a reminder with this project there is not really an end date so it is NOT too late to sign up!.  I've gotten a few more people on the list but not near enough :D   Lets Make sure this project goes off with as big of a bang as possible! :) Not literally though since we don't want the violin hurt in the process.  This is going to be a long term running process but I want to try to make sure everyone in North America gets covered BEFORE we ship overseas.

So get your info sent to me and we'll get you on the list :D

-Dennis

P.S.  Also Pierre did create a link on the home page of this site to the Traveling Fiddle page that has the pin map and videos.  Which is also apparently where Fifi announced the arrival of the Traveler thumbs-up

Great idea. We can also spread this idea on other forums if anyone dare. pie_in_the_face-2223
We may encourage a few nice users to start visiting here from a different forum. I think we have most of the nice ones here already.

Next stop for the Traveler will be!  Helvetika and SunshineB!

Unfortunately I've been out of internet for a little while and I'm going to need a little time to get the back log re-organized but things should be running smoothly and on track again very soon.

Been wondering what the Traveller is up to. I added the already-posted videos as favorites on the Travelling Fiddle's YouTube channel.

@dionysia, how does one view that channel??  i'm not finding it in a youtube search....  did i miss something?!

i really hope it hasn't met up with any trouble, it was to be heading out my way soon!  although, the current saskatchewan scenery is definitely not as usual springlike and hopeful as usual....  it's STILL snowing if you can believe it!!

here's a pic of my exasperated husband finally taking matters into his own hands after six months of record snowfall and no snow removal on our street!!

oh....  and btw, this is after a week of warmer weather so the snow banks had already diminished by about a foot by this time!!

~needless to say, @Fiddlerman, Florida sounds absolutely lovely right about now!!  lol

I haven't heard anything either. Fifi La Fume has it or had it last but it's been quite a while.
