When I had it in 2016, there was no jump drive.

Opportunity is often missed because it wears suspenders and looks like hard work.

3 years on from her visit to the UK I thought I'd re-share this !

Her Atlantic crossing went easily....

But then she was detained by our customs.   During her captivity and general humiliation at the hands of the authorities she managed to smuggle out some communications to me -

I thought those who have hosted The Traveler would like to see how their signatures are holding up, and thise who have jot hosted, would like to see the signatures. I took some photos around The Traveler to show the signatures. Some are wearing off. I took the photo anyways so that if it is yours, you will see it. I will do them in a few posts, not all in one long thread. Here are the first few.

I hope you found looking at the signatures interesting, and a look down memory lane, for some. I noticed Vincent Knight’s signature was not in it, unless his wore off. I do not see ftufe, either. Ftufe was the first host. Maybe the signatures did not start appearing until after she started her rounds? I know the signatures were Fiddlerman’s idea, but maybe she had already starting visiting by then, or the earlier signatures wore off.

@Billy G, it is the fourth picture in the second group. It was hard to get under the strings. I will try for a better shot. I was not going to miss your signature.

Here you go, Billy G. I took it while it was hanging on the wall rack. It was much easier to angle the camera.

Your signature is holding up well. Nice location! I wish my signature was clearer. It is a fat marker pen. Oh, well. It is permanent and cannot be changed, LOL I was trying to keep it small because real estate is running low in spots that won't be rubbed off easily. I didn’t want to take up too much room. 😁

@Jim Dunleavy and @BillyG

BillyG took the very best spot. It is the most protected from gradually being rubbed away, away, away away......... Poof we are gone.

Yes, when I hosted her, some were already half-way lost - Diane's  @KindaScratchy  was wearing thin, as was Dennis'  @cdennyb

I actually refreshed my signature about a year and a half ago when @Ripton hosted. We live about 45 minutes from each other, so we met up one day so I could do a touch-up.

Sorry to see it didn't last. Guess I picked a bad spot to sign.

That said, the ink in those metallic markers doesn't really stick that well, especially on non-porous surfaces. I see that some people signed with a regular Sharpie, but even that ink can rub off a glossy surface.

If we wanted to truly make them permanent, some sort of sealant could be applied (spray polyurethane?). But, that would ruin its playability, so it would have to be taken out of commission and essentially become a piece of art.

I guess it was just inevitable that the signatures would degrade over time.

I am thinking about the construction of a reusable shipping box for traveller ii and, naturally, I have some questions  (the company Sealled Air would have partnered with me for an order of 1000 units lol).

1.  Does the current traveller come complete with case?  I am thinking that shipping expense would be less (having smaller both smaller size and weight) without the case.

2.  Does the traveller complete with bow(s), shoulder rest, electronic tuner, and rosin?  I am thinking that the instrument would be ancillary and these accessories would be unnecessary.

3.  Is any care currently given to instrument humidity control?  It would be fairly easy for me to accommodate the container with a diy humidifier and sealable plastic bag.

4.  How many voyage cycles has the current traveller gone?  By providing internal reinforcement gussets (wood fiber reinforced epoxy) and a fiberglass outer coat to a cardboard box, I can likely obtain ten to twenty voyage cycles.  One hundred voyage cycles is likely beyond expectation.

5.  I have been informed that small items are added.  I do not think that this would be problematic to the design.

As a visual reference, I am enclosing a photo of the suspension arrangement that the Amati auction house uses.  If the suspension frame were constructed from plastic tube, bows and artefacts could be added.50AA47CC-A318-4D63-9F4F-DFE760B88DAE.jpegImage Enlarger83B448CB-9D4A-4D50-BD78-7110CC06A082.jpegImage Enlarger36E37BEB-C1CA-4B18-B2A4-6A0216989F92.jpegImage Enlarger
