My adventure continues, I've been looking to get a basic idea of what this violin is worth. I paid $500 for it, and I've been to several luthiers trying to get this thing priced.
The violin has a one-piece back and is raised in the Steiner fashion. The patina has never been cleaned from the instrument. The length of the violin is ~24" and the length of the bow is ~29". A stamp baring the name "Steiner" has been burned into the instrument in place of a traditional label. The date was written in pencil, and has faded with time.
If anyone knows I would be ever grateful!

I would say that it might very well be worth $500 if it sounds good. Looks like a Chinese violin with a nice back. Could be worth even more but I would have to look at it.
It's rather heavy and mellow, almost bordering dull. It doesn't have a "bad" sound, and it's consistent across strings, but I am not happy with it. I don't know what would be a good replacement under $800.
