I think I might be messing up my fingerboard

So, I am one of those people who unfortunately has sweaty hands at times. Some of which (sweat) gets on my fingerboard. Now, I'm worried about this one thing. When I wipe it off with my polishing cloth, suddenly my polishing cloth gets a black stain. I'm worried that I might be eroding my fingerboard. Am I?

You need not worry about that. Your sweat won't damage the fingerboard too much.
Unfortunately, great Ebony is scarce and even the good stuff today is dyed. The black on your cloth is dye and will slow down over time. If it doesn't bother you that the fingerboard is a bit lighter colored, you'll be fine. 🙂

Whew. I thought that the black stuff was actual wood dust for a while. Thanks. As long as I'm not eroding the fingerboard, I'm fine.
