Do I see ukesman.com coming
Really, a great instrument. I have one myself. I would be nice to play it.
But my violin is a very harsh and jealous mistress and she won't let practice any other.
Even my mando is suffering from neglect.
Seen it all. Done it all. Can't remember most of ..... What was I saying????

Ukulele is cool! I like the sound, too -- it's warmer than mandolin (I guess I prefer the sound of gut strings or nylon strings to steel strings). When my daughter showed interest in it I bought a kit (still haven't started to put it together yet, I read somewhere you could complete a kit in one weekend, but it seems more complicated than putting a violin kit together to me) , and then I bought one from a ebay dealer where I got my violin kits. I only played a few times, I could play a few chords and a few melodies (children's songs) and that's it. Sometimes I just strummed it and enjoyed the sound.
My main instrument now is violin, unless my doctors say I can't play violin any more because of my recent shoulder injuries I will continue to stick with violin, otherwise may switch to ukulele seriously.

I have two uke's already. One is a Soprano and the other a Baritone. The Soprano I bought several years ago while shopping for a Bagpipe, the Baritone was given to me from a friend.
When I was a kid I had a uke that somehow got broken, so I used the neck, put it on a R.G.Dunn cigar box and made a cigar box uke. It sounded great.
Here is a great song by the late, "Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwo'ole. "Somewhere Over the Rainbow"
Enjoy.
Ken.

oooooo.. I like the last one also.. ooooooh..
And I thought I wanted a new bow...
@coolpinkone,
Oh yes, I can see us both with one.
My birthday is coming up in Oct., and the husband has already been subjected to my not so subtle hints.....lol!
I also figure that since I play both guitar and banjo, even though it's been awhile, I don't think there'd be too steep of a learning curve. There's only 1 or 2 less strings to play.....

I have been thinking too Feathers. I guess I have zero experience... It seems very fun! I hope your hint was noted. :). You never know!
@coolpinkone,
Can I disagree with you for a minute on the part I put in bold? IMO, you do have some experience.
You already play a stringed instrument, and might be surprised at how one can translate to the other.

ok.. I get that. I'll take it.
I guess I did mention getting one to someone recently and they said, "why would you want to do that?" ha ha.
I do have a loaner guitar that I strum here and there.. I need to commit more to it. I find that the Guitar is a whole different kind of soothing.
The Uke music to me is just down right happy. Not to mention portable and rather hip these days to boot!
Vibrato Desperato.... Desperately seeking vibrato
