Auld Lang Syne. I think this song is something everyone can relate to, religious or not, there should be parts that really are something every level can play. The last couple years were a bit difficult.

I just think it is suitable for all.

Auld Lang Syne would be nice.  I also like Sleigh Ride, but I am completely open!

Sleigh Ride is nice, too, but I think it might be a little quick for quite a few of us. I am hearing Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme in my mind. We will be "lip-syncing" a lot of notes, not really fun at the lip-syncing end. Won't keep me out if I can do most of it, though.

A few suggestions.  I’m good with whatever Christmas tune Fiddlerman chooses.

Just giving some video examples—not suggesting we play the versions in these videos.  Fiddlerman always does excellent arrangements of whatever tune he chooses, with a mind to accommodate various skill levels.

1) Star of the East is a slow tune, with a simple melody.  Example below is someone doing a cappella with four-parts--gives a good idea of how it could sound.

2) O Come, O Come Emmanuel has been suggested several times throughout the years, and was voted for often when we voted for preferences.  Just a neat version played by cellos in this example:

3) It Came Upon a Midnight Clear can be played fast of slow. Example played by a string quartet, who starts by playing it slow, and then speeds it up for the last part.

Characterize people by their actions and you will never be fooled by their words.

I will also give a vote for O Come, O Come, Emmanuel!!!

Also, yes, I can make it very easy for everyone.

I was in the barber shop last winter and this came on the radio while I was waiting. Fell in love with the happy bouncy holiday tune.

It's called Candy Cane Lane by "Sia." (I never heard of her because I'm an old guy!) Julia Simeone put together her own version and it sounds great.

It's probably too difficult unless Fiddlerman can make it easy. I would love to hear the Fiddlershop group do this one - Pierre, Gibbles, and Gabby as a treat for us.

Enjoy,

In seeing that "Sleigh Ride" sheet music above, unfortunately, there is no way I can do that. That is just too busy. I love the song, always have, but in my opinion, it is not one that every level can play, unless those of us who cannot handle something that busy plays one note fir every 3 or 4, or sits through most of it. Just a thought from someone who struggles with those. Too many black notes and slurs(?). Old fingers don't move quickly and speeding up is not going to happen, 😂.

I know those of you more advanced players want something at your level, but this is for all levels, and parts of interest to all levels. Just a thought. It is actually hard and confusing to see the sheet music and have to skip notes while playing in order to keep up. I did that last year, and I think the year before, and it is very confusing.

Anything you want, but just something to consider.

Thank you @SharonC for reaching out to us. We have been so busy with all things violin that we just forgot about our friends here on fiddlerman. With regards to a Christmas Song, I think Thomas would enjoy just about anything, especially something fun, cheerful and just simply Christmasey. I know that doesnt help break it down much, but being a young man, he enjoys something that embraces happiness and vigor.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I just started writing the quartet version for O Come, O Come, Emmanuel.

That's not to say that we'll do that one but I got a sudden urge. LOL

Didn't work much on it but here is the first rough draft without dynamics or bowings. Not sure about this key but the version I was listening to was in D minor, so that is what I did. We can choose any key in the end.

Speed is good. Might be able to keep up with that, 😂. Liked it.

@Fiddlerman I just did a run through of the violin 1, it went really well! Timing was off, not steady, but hey, I was hearing my recordings in my mind. But, not too bad. I actually liked it.

I love it!  I think it will be amazing!  Both Violin I and II seem pretty straight forward.

@Fiddlerman  I like it.  smile

Maybe in Em instead of Dm?  1 sharp vs 1 flat maybe easier for some folks, both reading & fingering.

That might be better for several reasons.
