Cool, however I am worried about the future condition of her neck. I hope that someone helps her find a more relaxed position before it's too late. Maybe a better chinrest would put the fiddle in the right spot :-)

If she was any more relaxed she would nod off !

You jest (?).

Did you notice her turning her head easily to look stage right and left.  In fact I think she even broke contact with the violin during that time (?).

Do-dah, do-dah !

She is relaxed now but I am talking about the future. She isn't playing anything difficult where she needs to grip the violin. Wait till she starts playing in positions and has to shift down. She is holding the violin with her left hand now. Her palm is often touching the violin.

Don't get me wrong, t's still a lot of fun to watch her do her thing, having fun and performing without worries.

LOL, Love that you are able to embed the videos now :-)

Cute to see the same girl years later.

Don't get me wrong, I want to be positive but she is still only playing in first position and resting the violin on her left wrist which means that she would have a hard time playing difficult pieces.

Not everyone needs to have great technique. This works perfectly for her and what she is playing.Smile

Thanks for the post Oliver

I think that violin was big for her at age 7. That probably accounted for her posture being off.

You may have a point there. It does look like it may have been too big. Her left arm is quite extended.
I still would have wanted her to keep the violin higher up towards her shoulder.

Ach du liebe !!

Two classicals pickin on a lil kid is ugly !

What if you could only hear the audio (blind audition) ?

Are we all simply trained to rank packaging above content ?

This girl after age 14 simply falls off the radar.  Too bad.

You know that we are not picking on her, but maybe her teacher a little bit ....
I try to give constructive criticism that might help someone else along the line. She was cute and talented. Besides, she is all grown up now.

I'm not criticizing the girl at all. She impressed me so much that I called my whole family over to watch her. I'm just sensitive to proper violin sizes for children. With kids it's better to err on the small side with violins. I'm getting a 1/2 size for my 8 yr old daughter to replace the 1/8th size she has now. Unfortunately fractional violins sound awful and have no projection, which may explain why she seems to be playing a full size.

Fact is, I am amused how other players might view a scene.  I am not classically  (or otherwise ) trained so my perspective is always a little odd.

Just had my 11 yr. old Grand Daughter starting a school program and there was a lot of 3/4,7/8 debate going on.  7/8 won.  (but it did look a bit large in her videos.  Pop said she has grown 3" in the last year and is not stopping)  ; )  (all she really cares about is the fit of her new clothes from Justice !)
