Well, we got it on Friday as expected, but had such a crazy schedule this past weekend, that we only opened the package Saturday to check for damage. It arrived in great condition, except that the rosin was cracked to pieces. I emailed them & they're sending a new one, no questions asked. Sunday we checked it out, made adjustments to the bridge & tuned it. So far so good! I think we'll need to pick up peg drops, because the G kept going out of tune. But it sounds pretty good to me, although I haven't picked up a violin in about 30 years, I'm pretty impressed. My daughter wants to "practice" all day, however she's yet to have a lesson & I'm hesitant to "teach" her anything, as it'll probably be wrong! I'm hoping to relearn from her as she goes.
I'll keep you posted as to what her teacher has to say when the school year starts. But I don't think it'll be a problem. Like I said before, Fiddlerman impressed me with his $99 Violin video & I'm sure it'll be just fine!

I had one peg that kept loosening up. I loosened the string about a half turn, then while pushing in gently but firmly I twisted the peg back and forth a quarter turn about a dozen times. My theory was to mate the peg to the hole, it seemed to work. Remember when tuning to gently push in on the pegs. If you already know this, I apologize for stating the obvious. I don't think you could hurt anything by letting your daughter play some open strings. I bet she could pick up Twinkle Twinkle Little Star pretty quickly. Best of luck!
