Aha!
Someone asked a while ago if there were any famous English violinists.
At the time, I thought about Yehudi Menuin, but then got to wondering if he was English by birth or upbringing.
I wonder if this picture is the same man but younger!

I am amazed at how old people of my age are.....

From Wikipedia.... What a mix of nationalities......

"Yehudi Menuhin, Baron Menuhin, OM, KBE (22 April 1916 – 12 March 1999) was an American violinist and conductor who spent most of his performing career in the United Kingdom. He was born to Russian Jewish parents in the United States, but became a citizen of Switzerland in 1970, and of the United Kingdom in 1985. He is often considered to be one of the greatest violinists of the 20th century"

A brief history of the man, even if it is not the right answer

don't be upset FM, it's just a game, I will not post anything if you want.violin-1267

What in the world gave you the idea that I am upset? coffee2

I think it is hilarious that you know them all. You can post the answer if you like.

For everyone else, another hint, there is a relatively modern movie where one might have learned about this guy but the movie isn't about him or doesn't focus on him in any way or form.

i have a lot of violin concert videos in my PC, and I read a lot about violin and violinists, so I know many of them, if I don't know one I look to his face and discover if his face English, American, French, etc, and then go to Wikibediea or google and find him.

First I thought it may be the author of the song from Titanic but then I looked him up and it wasn't. Osama kinda give's name's away with initial's.

Seem's as though there are only a few people playing this game anymore, but his name is..........

Wallace Hartley. It was quite a find, recovering the actual violin belonging to Hartley.

I'm sure there are more people playing the game, just that they do not know. This is more than a game in that it allows us to learn about different violinists.

All do honesty...Fiddlerman is right.  There are more of us playing, but most of us do not have the "mental library" that the three or four of you have.  I watch everyday and take a guess when I have an idea.  But to me, getting the answer right isn't the fun.  It is the googleing and wikipedia-ing...it is the pursuit of the answer.  Because everytime I do not know that person, (which is just about everytime...lol) I learn quite a bit about that violinist just from my "attempt" to find the right answer.  So, yes, most of us may not have the right answer, but it is still fun regardless and I love this thread...great reserach fodder...lol.

thumbs-up
