Yeah. Much as I kinda like seeing Klaus Kinski playing crazy weird people (because he always did that pretty well), so far as "musician movies" go, this wouldn't be one I could recommend to most people.
Other than being a bit racy for the younger folks, I didn't feel it did much to tell the story of Paganini's life or much of any story at all, hardly. As an art movie, it is ok. But it doesn't have much that would interest a musician other than maybe hearing some Paganini pieces that one can hear played better in quite a few places on the net.
I personally like a little more storyline, or at least a bit of tidbits of info about the music or musician. I didn't really feel like I got that from watching this.
It was ok as just entertainment, if a bit excessive on "adult" scenes. But as a musician movie, I couldn't really recommend it.

I don't think this is something I would take my wife or 10 year old niece to watch. It's not a good movie, on multiple counts.
Of that portion I could stomach, there was nothing but absurd sexual fantasy, full length nudity, and idol worshiping.
Really now.....if it wasn't worth censoring, then why was it worth posting?
The acting? Not even close to a nominee for an academy trash can.
The music? The audio was horrible; it sounded like it came from an Edison Dictaphone.
It's a smut film through and through; there is no doubt. Probably better suited for degenerate law makers and CIA directors in Washington and Virginia , than for a family website dedicated to musical training and support.

The lack of actual content on Paganini's life as a musician and his accomplishments and etc made this a movie that wasn't what I had been hoping for.
Since the movie with David Garrett apparently focuses on the alleged "deal with the devil", I don't expect much better from it either.
I don't care if actors actually play the instruments when portraying a musician. In many cases, it is probably better if they don't, and work instead on playing the character. But a movie about a musician should have more about their music and their work and how they got there. The things that happened in their life and how they got their influences.
To me, whether Paganini or Robert Johnson made some "deal with the devil" isn't particularly interesting. What they did with it, so far as what they learned and played and wrote and what their world was like over their lifetime is what I usually want to see.
