Believe it or not I sometimes play this clip for a healthy laugh but the joke is on me. I actually ponder if I practice long enough (10,000 hrs.?) could I rise to that musical level? What about an expensive bow? I could buy all the gizmos from Shar ? Maybe a 5-figure violin. (That would HAVE to be an improvement!). And I'm long overdue for new rosin.
THE ANSWER IS ...... NONE OF THE ABOVE! People like Emily only happen a few times every century and that's all there is to it. So glad to see that at least once in my life time and such a laugh to imagine that there is any connection between her world and mine !!
What if they had a violin in the house when she was a child ??????

Aloha everyone,
At this point, like @Fiddlerman, I have too many to list, but I'll list three of my favorites.
First is Valentina Lisitsa, who was born to play Beethoven.

Next is Glenn Gould, who was born to play Bach.

and finally is Kevin Burke, who was born to play Irish fiddle.

I don't really have an idol but I love to watch Andre Rieu. He always looks like he is having fun. And I also like to watch the audience and the members of his orchestra - always leaves a smile on my face.

I have to say... I have become a fan of Andre Rieu. I was not at first...but in the last year I have really used his youtube videos as a way to just experience nice theatrical and musical performances. He is so very into his playing... and the backdrops and his seemingly cheerful way. I love to enjoy his performances.
I love this one..

Aloha @VickieD,
I really love that video with Mark O'Connor, but they make it seem so easy, don't they? hahaha That was a beautiful arrangement of Ashokan Farewell - I just wish I could play it with 1/1000th of their talent. Very nice video indeed!
Aloha @coolpinkone! Valentina is another one that makes it look so easy to play the more difficult pieces, such as the 3rd movement of the Moonlight Sonata. Of course, when you see the sheet music, then try to play it, you get to see how really difficult it is and begin to appreciate the effortlessness Valentina displays. One interesting thing she does on some videos is use a chest strap with a GoPro camera while she plays. Of course, that way her arms look to be around 6 feet long!

Of course FM is an unsaid hero. Without this site, I never would have started to play.
That being said, my 3 musical heroes are Itzhak Perlman, Adam Degraff and my Father. My daughter is a VERY close 4th, but as she reads these forums, I would hate for it to go to her head.
Lindsey sterling and her unique style caught my attention to alternative violin playing instead of purely classical.
