A good idea 'Your Majesty'But I think that the 'self' critique should 'optional'.
If I did that every time I posted I'd probably become rather depressed.
I only meant it as a one time thing, thats why I said " we post our videos in THIS thread". I just thought it would be interesting and helpful to see what we think needs work vs what others think.
And I wont be having any depressed Knights moping about the kingdom
Sorry for the misunderstanding Sire. Please forgive your 'cloth eared ' Knight. I stand corrected
I'll also post, and critique my own butt off. Just give me a day or two.
In the meant time I'm looking forward to your post

Hi Barry. I listened fully through two times. I noticed more good than bad. I know that isn't useful for this thread. Ha ha.
I think maybe some longer bow strokes will be a great addition to your playing.
This thread is a good exercise for me to watch and look and trying to see "critique points" I will follow the thread and replay your video when advice is given. I have come to see that technical knowledge of technique, form and bowing is a weak spot in myself as a musician. I see this thread as an exercise to help me grow and work on this aspect by actually reading the critique and then going back to see if I can see it. (if that makes sense)
Thanks for the opportunity Barry. Nice tune. And always great to "see" you.

Daaanng Barry. I have no critique to add. That was awesome.
Opportunity is often missed because it wears suspenders and looks like hard work.

@Barry
Good one I reckon.
Intonation is good
What I could see was that you hold the bow well up the stick. That is not an unusual way to hold the bow. You see it all the time. The problem that I see in it is that it effectively shorten your bow, at times to the point that you run out of bow.
Would like to see you play something that requires longer bow strokes and require you to play a bit slower

This is my promised post
I decided to redo the Skye Boat Song for this post because its the one that 'I' use as a benchmark to gauge my progress. I know you have all heard it before but I didn't think that it needed to be a presentation of a new tune
I think that on the occasional note the intonation is a bit off but not badly
I still think that my bowing is letting me down. I think I'm bowing fairly straight these days but I'm still hearing some buzzing and squeaks and I'm not sure what it is. It could be to do with inconsistant bow speed and / or pressure. I'd really like to get it sorted out.
I think that there are a couple of little odd noises caused by my crappy recording gear or my editing software.
Thoughts from you folk would be great

@Barry: It's kinda hard for me to critique when I don't have anything to submit for a video (yet). It's coming though.
The biggest thing I've ever noticed is that when you play, your right arm, wrist and elbow are so tensed up and stiff. My arm gets tired just from watching you. I'd like to see you play something a bit slower though.
What was that song, you did a great job on it, excellent intonation from what I could tell by not knowing the song.
@Ferret : You could stand more feeling in your presentation, more expression. Your intonation was good.
Thanks for the posts guys. Good job.
Ken.

My turn... I rushed home... So confident that I could wham out a 53 second recording... Anyway.. It was 30 takes.. All nervous .. All FUBAR.. But laughs and fulfillment.
so here it is... Timing, intonation and a vagabond bow ... Yes! Still I have a tickle to try it for y'all. It was a tough day and 100 degrees.. I can do this better .... But please let me have it.

@coolpinkone
Toni, you don't pick easy tunes do you
You are bowing way too far from the bridge and a bit straighter would be good.
Your intonation here and there was a bit, shall we say, wanting. But on the whole good.
I did notice that you could hear the odd off note, which is a good thing. If you couldn't hear them I'd be more worried.
You got better as you settled in.
i can definately hear a lot of improvement in the last few months. You must have been putting a fair bit of work into it.

Hey bud.. Yes.. I can hear it.. The nerves.. But the bow and timing is the first thing the camera steals from me.. Ha ha... Yea.. A long road.. It is one of the end of the book songs in Essentials... I know I need to get this right. Thanks John.. A lot of work to be done. Thanks man!

I would advise that you record more often. I'm finding that the more time I spend in front of that three legged cyclops (camera) the less threatening it becomes. And I think that it's helps you learn
This was my FIRST recording of the Skye Boat Song and it was my second recording ever

Okay Barry.. you got it right.. I do play on the extreme edge of it. I think I was told to use the edge about a year ago and I got into a habit of using so little of it.. like less is more???? Funny how things evolve like that.
Man, you got it.. maybe that will open up some tone possibilities for me..thank you.
And yes.. I have a wandering bow issue.. completely. And yeah.. I can bow straight.. but not for the camera.. so I need to practice bowing so it becomes second nature and I am not thinking about it. I have not been able to correct my wandering bow. I think I need some review and a whole lot of practice.
LEVEL UP! yeah man.. I can do this.
Thanks Barry.

@Barry I hate when I post. Do you ever feel like that? I mean I am so happy for the feedback and that is why I post.. that is why I am determined to keep posting for critique, until I can get a teacher.
But dang.. It almost makes me horrified to watch. I had a good expectation.. I listened to the tune all the way home... put head phones on... even tapped out the beat while doing some banking....ran in the house fed the dogs.. I was so sure I was going to nail it. I have to send my screen shot of the number of takes.. grrrh.. It took a while to get a 'take'... 5:30-6:30.. and in the end I took one from the middle of the group of 35 takes.
I don't know.. just some thoughts... I am going to go for a drive on my lunch break and listen to minuet more.. and just do some mind practice. I just hate the feeling of it... it is like buyers remorse or something...feels like regret a bit.
okay. I had to get that off my chest.

gotcha bud!
I am just having a "moment"... I will put another video up soon. I want to work on the five things for 3 full practice sessions and then post.. you know? Make it all work.
in my head there is this voice that is whining..(I miss my finger tapes... )... Seven months tapeless now.
Anyway.. no excuses.." hard work..hard work.. fun too.. fun too.. "
