Well guys as promised here is the first video of me playing, first of all an apology for the crappy video and sound quality I recorded it with my cell phone camera cuz I don't have a professional camera at this moment so yeah.

Second this is Minuet 2by J.S. Bach from suzuki method book 1 after being playing it for 1 week.

This is my progress so far after being playing the violin for 4 and a half months now.

All suggestions and comments are welcome.

I think I can do it better so if it sounds really bad I will blame the nervous of being recorded hahaha.

P.S. Sorry for the background noises my daughters were recording me and playing at the same time :P

I can't critique on anything because everything will come in time.

You did a fine job, Oscar07. Keep it up.

4 and a half months > that is very good. I was still trying to just keep it in tune at 4 and a half months. Your doing great.

Yes, very good for only 4.5 months!  Good job!

Opportunity is often missed because it wears suspenders and looks like hard work.

Not knowledgeable enough here to give any constructive criticism - I'll leave it at saying "I recognized the piece, and not bad at all for 4 1/2 months"  ( I am given to understatement! )

Well done !

I seriously recommend not copying my mistakes. D'oh - guntohead.JPG

Please make your own, different mistakes, and help us all learn :-)

Try to learn to go beyond playing the piece and find music in it. In other words, tempo, expression, dynamics.... play with all of that as well. Even though you are a beginner, incorporating those things in your playing is possible and makes playing more fun.

Listen to your recording and see if you recognize intonation flaws, mark them in the part with an arrow up or down and work more on the piece to fix those flaws. Re-record yourself and listen again after say one week to see if you prefer the new recording. :)

Great work!!! Keep it up!

Thanks to all of you for your comments.

@Fiddlerman I suck at expression lol, dynamics I've heard about that quite a lot but I don't quite understand what is that :S about the intonation yes I know there are some flaws there I kinda have a hard time with the low 2 finger on the A and E strings, its hard to teach my weird long fingers to place really close to each other but I'm working on it, I will be playing this one at a recital on June with my teacher so I'm still practicing this piece in order to play it better and definitely once I correct all those mistakes I will record myself again to compare ;)

Great job for just some months!!  I too am working on DYNAMICS!! = [hehe!! that might just be an example of written dynamics]  as is .....

Even though my hands are very limber I did have trouble reaching sideways with my fingers.  This exercise given to me by my Suzuki Teach to do when watching TV or sitting at a desk, whenever.  It might help you.

1.  Hold a pencil with thumb, index and 3rd finger in correct position for B and D.  Keep them in position.

2. Place your 2nd finger in C#.  Then lift it up.

3.  Place pinkie in B position.  Then lift it up.

4.  Place 2nd finger in C position.  Then lift it up.

5.  Place pinkie in B position.

6.  Repeat 2-5.

You're doing a really good job!  If you keep it up, you'll be able to smooth out the rough parts.  I can't really comment on specifics, because I've only been playing for a little over a year, but recording yourself and watching your videos is one of the best things you can do, not only for critique, but to track your progress and see how you improve over time!

Keep it up!

Simply WOW @oscar07! I have been working on the song before this one (Minuet 1) for a little over a week - if only it sounded half as good!! Absolutely fantastic! I can't believe you've only been playing for such a short time. (You're daughters did a pretty good job of the cinematography too! tongue) Thanks for the inspirational video, you've given me something to aim for as I attempt Minuet 2!gold_star
