Coming in a bit late, do you think I would play better slower? I missed the post you edited Emily. I have tried recording slower tunes and still have the same problems, my tone does sound better on slower ones though. With the jigs and reels my speed just increases once I learn a tune, its like an unconscious thing it just gets faster and faster to a certain point , Sessions go at break neck speed a lot quicker than I can play. I was playing a tune last night , an chloe and even that started speeding up lol dont know what mozart would think, and it would be quite funny watching a pianist try to keep up.
Cant beat a sunny day

Sorry, what goes on in my brain and what is typed by my fingers is often worlds apart. (lol)
If relaxing is a goal, then removing any undue stress would be helpful, e.g., play slower if you feel pressure to play "up to speed" on a new tune.
Amazing... took me 10 posts of my blabber to make me realize I only needed one sentence, to get my point across.

first off im not suggesting a problem with equipment or any type of new tech solution here or a fix for anything I hear.. but your mention of tone in this made me think of something that may be causing a recording sound you dont like compared to when you played it. Have you tried taking your camera and moving it higher so that its more above and pointing more toward bass side of your fiddle and down if possible? if its the sound of the bow moving on strings youre referring to, a mic to close will pick up more.. youre also recording low on the treble side so if you feel youre missing bass then maybe reposition how you record and see if it changes anything for you.. again just some ideas from the how you record line of thinking.

I am thinking of buying a mic for my tablet, your suggestions are good greg. The mic on my tablet is not the greatest, its very sharp.
I am going to give the fiddle a rest for a couple of days as I have noticed my bow going all over the place as well which is affecting everything else and I thinks caused by trying to hard.It puts me in a frustrated bad mood, turns the fiddle into a job of work rather than pleasure
When I dont get something right I will repeat the action until I do even if it takes a thousand attempts, (this is how I recently slipped a disc in my back, doing curls with 30 pound dumbells wth bad form) which in turn creates the completely wrong environment for learning, and then I record to see if it sounds ok then get angry when it doesnt which leads to a bad cycle, or, and you have probably done this yourself, play a tune all the way through then hit a bad note one bar before the end, this sends me into what you could call an artistic tantrum, making me laugh now thinking about it😄. .A thought just came into my head, a vision of mozart, kicking over his music stand, snapping his bow and throwing his violin across the room in a temper after playing a dotted quarter note instead of a plain quarter note lol
Thanks for your replies and listening to me moan, good job you have trained ears😉

ehhh..wasnt really suggesting a mic change just maybe a mic position thing. also it wasnt anything i heard i was trying to correct..you mentioned tone..so my ears didnt play into it...ive just recorded and thought it sounded good then played back and it was muddy..or too scratchy ..or tinny.. then i moved back or changed angle of mic and such.. till even with mistakes...the overall sound was something i felt better about. just a thought..
