Is there a bore scope or video camera small enough to go inside one of the F holes to inspect for repairs or cracks forming?
What do you use?
Thanks
Ron

most of the cracks that develop on violins happen near the bridge or along side the tail piece. A sound post that is incorrectly cut or installed that is too tight can cause stress over time. The biggest factor (besides dropping, sitting on it,yes, that happens) is not caring for your instrument in dry conditions. they make humidifiers for your case and also dampits you install in the F hole to help combat these things but just taking care on it and avoiding extremes is really all thats needed.

I use a small dental mirror and a flashlight to inspect inside...no sense gettin' crazy

Thanks Barry, yea , I understand that things happen , I have been guilty of some even though I am cautious with my instruments,
I have my own Dampits I made for my guitars that last longer than the ones you buy.
My concern is how it was taken care of before I got it, maybe in the trunk of a car for a few years or most of its life in the attic,
I was wondering if the little USB connected endoscopes that they sell will fit thru an F hole? I believe the camera light end is at 10MM , that way you can see it on the desktop monitor real time.

As Barry does, we also use a dental mirror and special light.
Check out this light. SM Inspection light

That light came with my sound post setter when I bought it. Was like $12.95 for both the setter and light.

We sell the setter at Fiddlershop as well. I was referring to the light.
I really like that setter.

There is a link on that page of me using the sound post setter as well.
