Schaick_from_fiddlerman.com_fiddletalk_forumI was born in Lancaster, Ohio in 1955. Dad was a high school and college football coach so we moved around a lot, Wilmington College, Yale University, IU and Northwestern. The only time IU went to the Rose Bowl was when we were there. Dad coached offensive backfield and then later at Northwestern was the offensive coordinator.

When we lived in Bloomington Indiana we lived across the street from Coach Knight. After every football and basketball game Dad and he would get together and analyze the game, their coaching techniques and players.   My only claim to fame was babysitting for his kids, Tim and Pat.

I played flute for a couple of years in high school and tried to pick it up again as an adult on a couple of occasions, but playing made me have coughing fits - “sports asthma”. I changed to the tenor recorder which takes less air but still had trouble with the coughing. READ MORE>>>

What a pleasure to read about you with my coffee this am.

I enjoyed your interview as much as I enjoy your presence  her in the forum.  I am so so very glad to have met you and to be able to share this journey.

Say hello to Bertie for me.   :)

I don't play too much Blue Grass or fiddle tunes... but I did get started on some.  I am determined to play Midnight on the Water.  I LOVE LOVE that tune.

Wonderful interview!

Great interview, @Schaick - thank you!  I'm always interested to know where the inspiration to play fiddle ( well, any instrument, really ) comes from !

It's good to have the opportunity to perform to an audience - my own mind set about that is "I'm really playing this for myself" - and hopefully if I don't fluff it too much - the audience will be appreciative and get some degree of enjoyment from listening.

And great on overcoming the stage-fright, well done !

Alley Cat indeed - that takes me back LOL - cool !  Sometimes there are songs I had forgotten I knew, if you know what I mean.   That one put a smile on my face this morning.

Keep playing old Bertie, and posting your pieces for our enjoyment !

I seriously recommend not copying my mistakes. D'oh - guntohead.JPG

Please make your own, different mistakes, and help us all learn :-)

Very nice interview. "Alley Cat" was a favorite of my mother's, she sang or whistled it on occasion for 30 years after it's release and a few weeks ago, I found myself playing it on violin.
