Are you having issues with the forum loading slowly? Could you state around when you noticed? It might help with reporting it.

The following reported it on the chat roll on May 28:

Please provide as much information you feel safe sharing, ie device, iOS, specific sections of the Forum, etc.

I have been having this problem for a long time. It appears to be a problem with all the downloading? I am not sure. I thought it was my end. But, it has been for over a month. A few days it has been a normal speed, but mostly it is slow, like it gets hung up. The little blue progress bar just stops.

Sometimes I can close and come back and it will work. Other times, I close and the blue bar is where I left off, this is most of the time.

Sometimes it takes a while to load and log in, other times the site itself takes a long time to load and after the login and entering the password, it is quick. But it never loads fast and logs in slow.

Sometimes certain threads take a while all the time.

I am using a iPad Pro 2nd Gen, original iPad air or iPhone 11. All are up-to-date iOS. I am accessing with high speed cable.

This is the only site I have this issue with, so I was not convinced it was my end.

Thank you so much for your help. Don't know if anything can be done, but will see.

I only noticed it for a short time this afternoon. I tried to log in at about 3pm Pacific time and the site seemed to be completely down. I tried again about an hour later and it was back up. The last time I had problems with the forum loading slowly was well over a year ago.

The loading issue comes and goes, it can be loading slow all the time or it loads perfectly and then all of a sudden I get time out errors, I try others sites and there fine, come back to this one it might be slow again it might load normally it's been doing this for months.

This Is occurring at all hours of the day and night.

The more info I can collect here before sending the link to this thread to Fiddlerman, the better it will be for them to see what they can do, I would think.

I had a specific problem this evening at about 6:05pm CDT. Tried to post a comment on my blog that was fairly long. Hit "Submit Reply" and it just kept chugging for 2-3 minutes. I noticed it was able to select and copy the post before I got a Gateway failed to respond kind of message. Refreshed the page and the update had not occurred. Restarted my reply, pasted the saved text, and it then updated properly.

Speed seems to vary a bit, but not significant enough (usually) for me to get upset.

I have a problem the site loading almost every day, and I have a very fast internet connection. This is the only site where I have a problem.

My own theory is that there are so many instruction videos that load on the main page, it takes too long to open and then freezes. A possible solution would be to have the IT manager put all the videos under a separate tab so there's not so much data on the home page. Just a thought.

Thanks everyone, I will send this link to Fiddlerman to alert him about this thread. I don't know if anything can be done, and they may very well know about it, but just in case. I have to edit my comment to show that I also have high speed internet.

Thanks again.

I haven’t been on for a couple of weeks, but I haven’t had any problems prior & none today.  I block a lot of things on my computers/network, so there might be third-party things slowing down access for some.

My internet isn't especially fast (up to 50mbps download).

I have seen some cross-site tracking happening that I have one of my computers set up to identify & block.  Not saying that that is for sure the problem, but the first thing I thought of.

Here’s a short article that talks about shutting off cross-site tracking on your Internet browsers:

When I open FM.com I have to be careful not to try to scroll to the "recent post" section too quickly. If I scroll down before the big **Introduction.mp4 gets loaded, once it does I get scrolled automatically to the very bottom of the page and have to return to the top manually. This started a couple (or few months) ago.

This forum has never been fast.

There tends to be a huge amount of bouncing about before it settles.

I wouldn't like to see file size reduced - this is about the only forum I know where upload limits are high or non-existent, if I ever want to upload an mp3 to the internet without having a box account, for example.

There was a time years ago when a lot of Youtube links would cripple a forum, but perhaps that was when the code had to be embedded.

@Gordon Shumway Then, it is probably not an issue, just that we are allowed to do what most forums don’t allow. If that is the case, I would not be concerned because I would not like files to be limited either. But, will check.

Thanks everyone. Much appreciated.

Well, I am having no issues today, so far. Maybe it is just traffic related. Be it traffic here, or traffic on your provider's end(?).

Same here. Seems OK now. Could have been a high traffic situation. I may have to increase the capacity of our server. I'll keep an eye on things.

It's partially to do with individual page contents.

Times for text downloads (such as this page) are around 20 seconds for me (15 seconds for the homepage). For a page with lots of gifs and youtube links, it's about a minute. In addition RAM is being used up a lot, slowing down individual computers. For instance for me (AVG secure browser) the RAM usage between a text page and a "picture/video page" goes from 350MB up to 650MB.

I've got 6GB of RAM, but between Win10 bloatware and AVG, it's struggling.

Anyone having problems that's using Google Chrome?

I don't personally use Google Chrome because it really bogs down my laptop.

https://lifehacker.com/why-chr.....02537477

I don't think GIFS or URLS pasted to posts should be any problem.

Why a pasted URL ends up a YouTube video display, instead of text, is beyond my limited knowledge (but it is nice).

I am notorious for immediately editing my posts - which could be an issue if someone is trying to read it. (lol)  I'm not very speedy and I find things I need to change (think that's an Article in the Women's Constitution 🤣).

I notice every time Windows 10 updates, it seems to reset things I don't want running, just had that happen - now fixed, I'm not having the bad issues (considering how old my laptop is).

As always, if I'm wrong - and admin wants me to take everything down, no problem - it is just my way of trying to communicate ideas. 😊

Afaik, AVG Secure Browser is a "hijacked" version of Google Chrome, but I don't find either any worse than Firefox, which used (iirc) 500MB of RAM per page.
