I've still been playing with a thin knit 'practice' glove on my left hand. Every once in a while I check to see what happens if I play without it. Today I picked something I knew well enough I could play with an extremely light touch. I like the crisper sound without the glove, but there is still something wrong with my fingers - slightest touch gives me very deep imprints that don't recover at all unless I rub my finger. I could possibly be dehydrated, or have bad circulation (my RH fingertips aren't this bad). Oh well, glove goes back on.
Spent a little more time sculpting the foam on my chin rest (just used scissors) - think I could've gotten away with a thinner piece of foam to start with. Earlier in my blog (maybe pg 10) - showed photos of the 1/2" self-adhesive neoprene foam I cut to shape & stuck on my chin rest. Later I removed most of it, leaving a curved strip about 3/4" wide along the whole edge closest to me. Beveled the inner edge for more slope toward the center of the chin rest - this thinned it out some.
Feels better, this may help me straighten my posture some (which is terrible).
I still need to do something about the chin rest mount feet digging into me. Right now In this weather my clothes are thin & I just fold a paper towel in half to drape over my chin rest/under the violin. I'll get around to rigging up something - maybe just tied to the mounts (have 3, not 2).
Been trying to play some of my tunes that have been shoved to the side far too long, as well as some newer ones. Got 'Fly By Night' back in shape. It's a hornpipe (I haven't been playing many lately). Joe Burke plays in EbMaj (or tuned so he sounds like he is playing in that key) - think that puts me in 'half' position (near the nut).
Rhythm & intonation, rinse & repeat - LOVE it!

I'm always spending a lot of research/learning time - latest is the rabbit hole of beat-making gear & grooveboxes in the 'Creating Beats for Violin - ELCBK Music Adventure Blog'.
Seems pretty common/natural for Fiddlers to want to play along with some drum track loops - maybe sweeten the sound a little & add a few effects.
I just want to take a moment to mention...
Fiddlershop has added MANY MORE accessories for Electric Violinists, and/or for acoustic Violists who want to boost their sound & add effects - all since I started with my little practice amp!
Please check them out (Fiddlershop Electric Accessories)!
Some great pickups, pre-amps, amps & effects pedals - 'Fishman' and 'Line 6', both well established brands.
If in the market for an amp with looper & beat loops FOR VIOLIN: Fiddlershop has a GREAT PRICE on the 'Line 6 Spider V60 MkII' (60 watts). Similar to my 'Spark 2', but 10 more watts of power. Can also connect to DAW (editing & processing, etc...) and also uses an app for more sound sculpting. Foot controls are available (I don't recall if Fiddlershop carries them). I do like that my 'Spark 2' has a battery, though.
Fiddlershop also carries the Line 6 HX Stomp Multi-Effects Pedal - which seems (to me) like the newer amp-modeling amps with effects, BUT IN PEDAL FORM!? I notice many folks (using this pedal) prefer to add on extra switches. It's a bit complicated for me, but does a VERY impressive amount of things. It only has a 1 track looper, but if you use an iPad, or iPhone - the addition of the Loopy Pro app can be a game changer!
HX Stomp looping along with Loopy Pro (which is more than a looper) - Max Yar!
VERY COOL COMBINATION! (NO, it doesn't suck) This video is Guitar, but would work with a FIDDLE!
