Cool.  Maybe we can work on it together.  I'm just looking for sheet music now.

Unfortunately my winter will be spent breaking ice from water buckets Moving a lot of hay bales and shoveling frozen manure. Then in the spring I'll be up to my knees in mud and looking for my boot that just got pulled off.

This fall is the best. Usually dry, if we don't have any floods, but later in September We are going to Dressage at Devon and in October to Penn National Horse show. Can't wait to go.

Heh, sounds kind of familiar since I live in a dry cabin and haul our water.  That gets tricky to do at -40.

Can someone help me with defining the difference between these songs?  Midnight on the Water, Moonlight on the Water, Bonaparte's Retreat.  I mostly see it as Midnight on the Water/Bonaparte's Retreat but I just watched this video called Moonlight on the Water and it's that song.  Did who ever record it just get the name wrong?

And is Midnight on the Water/Bonaparte's Retreat actually two songs normally played together or is the name interchangeable?

I don't mean to be critical but I wonder what program allows for you to write in 3/4 and connect eighth notes as is done in 6/8.  It's not correct and can be very confusing for many. An experienced player might automatically play those eighth notes as triplets in two which really doesn't work with a waltz. LOL

In any case, thanks for the link to the music.

Since this is a learning sight I wrote out the first section correctly so you can see what I'm talking about. I couldn't resist adding a few bowings in case some of you might want to learn this piece.

It's very common that people who have learned a piece by memory confuse the name slightly and engrave it in their brains until otherwise corrected. I know cause I do it all the time. LOL

Ooh thank you so much.  I hadn't tried to play it yet.  Thanks too for the bowing ques.  I would have started on a down bow just automatically.

I've been 'playing around' with Midnight on the Water for quite a while.

Another version with standard notation and tabs

@Fiddlerman

Is this version OK Pierre?

And silly question time. Why dose your version start with an 'up' bow?

Much better :-)

Correctly notated but that's not to say that you can't use the first one. Just wanted to show how much easier it is to read music that is correctly notated.

The reason for starting a pickup with an up-bow is to have the emphasis on the down beat. If you notice throughout my transcribed version I made sure the bow would be down on the beginning of every measure. Suits the walts beat real well. :-)

Yay, that totally looks like something I could play.  I can't wait to get home from work and try it!  Thanks.
