Yes, he was! 

Used to watch Jack Benny with my Grandmother (who played the piano and taught dancing when she was younger). 

I saw that one again, before I started the "Laugh a Day" thread - you might enjoy some of his other related violin humor, here, but none have quite that fabulous performance. 😊
