Hi everyone,

I have just bought myself a viola after procrastinating for two or three decades. I'm looking forward to learning the instrument - once I figure out how to get it to sit comfortably under my neck!

I have always loved the instrument but have waited almost until retirement before making a start with it. I'm really looking forward to the adventure.

I am not a complete novice with bowed instruments as I play the double bass.

Looking forward to being a part of this coomunity.

Welcome to the forum. I sent you an email a day or so ago welcoming you to the forum. It welcomes you and provides links to different areas of the forum to familiarize you with the layout. It also has some tips to posting, and information about the forum rooms themselves. If you did not get it, please check the junk folder in case it went there. Let me know if you don’t find it and I can resend it.

I think you will enjoy your new viola. There is a forum section called “Viola” in the “Instruments and Equipment” section. The “Viola” is below “Violin”. That would be a great place to request help with your shoulder rest, chin rest, etc. It is a new section and there are no posts there yet, which is why I am pointing it out.

In your meandering of the forum, don’t forget “Viola Talk” towards the bottom.

I sent the Welcome email before your introduction, so I could not point these out to you there.

It is great having you here. Have fun roaming around the different forums and participating whenever and wherever you feel comfortable.

Welcome to the site.

@spounder -

Always nice to have another member learning to play the Viola!

I don't have a Viola, but I play a 5-string violin

- so I can also play your Alto Clef music.

What kind of music are you interested in learning?
