I finally got around to learning the "Farewell to Miltown" reel last week. It had been on my list for quite a while - ever since I heard Grace Broadhead play it (Farewell to Miltown/Reel of Rio/The Holly Bush video).
Took a few moments today to learn a little more about Grace Broadhead. She's a fiddler from New Mexico, a composer, received the "Fiddler of London Despora Award" (2022), plus I found more of her impressive bio at O'Flaherty Irish Music Retreat from 2022 (Grace Broadhead)... now I also know about this wonderful Texas Irish Music Event (every October)! She also has a CD out with Ben Williamson (Tipping The Scales). ...ALL before she was 18 (turning 20 this year)!
A couple of Grace's tunes have notation at thesession.org - "The Twisted Chimney" (reel), and a waltz I really love "Rewrites". I know she composed "Chain Reaction" (on the "Tipping the Scales") from the BandCamp CD info, but it sounds terribly familiar to me - haven't found notation, but she uses riffs I LOVE from several favorite Irish tunes! ...could be interesting to drop the repeat down into minor!
Anyway, I'll be keeping an eye on GRACE BROADHEAD!
