24 years old from Hialeah, FL. Received my violin almost two days ago and have practiced for a few hours today. Bow holding is a tricky beast and playing straight bow strokes consistently seems like the biggest challenge, but I've tamed it enough along with some other basics to learn to play a decent "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" Part A.
Very happy beginning!

Been playing for a little over or under three months! I forget the date i got my violin...never touched a violin before that. I have destroyed Twinkle, Twinkle...(it is no longer able to be played in my house...so says my wife, kids and dogs!!)
But I have gotten really good at Ode to Joy. Next step...In the Hall of the Mountain King...!!!
I'm sooooo over Ode to Joy
Seen it all. Done it all. Can't remember most of ..... What was I saying????

Au Claire De La lune is another one that would be good when just starting out, for when one gets sick of Twinkle Twinkle. If you aren't already familiar with it:

Lyrics are there, standard notation for those who prefer to read, midi for those who prefer to play by ear. Key of C, 4/4, doesn't get much easier.
"This young wine may have a lot of tannins now, but in 5 or 10 years it is going to be spectacular, despite the fact that right now it tastes like crude oil. You know this is how it is supposed to taste at this stage of development." ~ Itzhak Perlman

Good for you Gabriel. Twinkle may be a childs song but it teaches beginners a lot of things.Welcome too the forum.
Not totally sure about being a child's song though, Kevin. Twinkle is played on violin by the campfire after dinner in the 2006 movie, "Broken Trail", starring Robert Duvall. Great Western movie.
