Recently in my journey with violin I have had the opportunity to play a couple duets. The biggest challenges I have had are going from playing alone to playing with someone else.
The latest one I am trying I’ve run into timing issues, having to stop and start, losing my place, etc. Playing the piece on my own, I have a lot less trouble. I am not sure if I am just nervous, or just having trouble playing with someone else.
I practiced the piece a few days prior to meeting with my duet partner and the piece is not very demanding. It’s just German folk dance in my lesson book. Also, this was not performed in front of anyone... just us two.
I do want to play more duets and accompaniment in the future. I hope I don’t develop some kind of phobia playing with others.
If anyone has recommendations for the best ways to learn duets please feel free to let me know. Thank you.
