LOL,
I don't think anyone else (violinist.com, etc) wants you on their site Composer. I'm just letting you post here to keep this place interesting and to avoid being an administrator that bans members for not thinking the same way they do. However, I don't know how long I'll be able to do so. You are about the most negative person I have ever seen posting anywhere. I kind of feel sorry for you because I don't think you can enjoy life, let alone enjoy learning to play the violin. Take a hard look at your life and ask yourself if it's worth doing the things you do and treating people the way you do. How many chances do you think a man gets in life?
Thanks for the tolerance. As you write, the musings of anonymous commentators, albeit they are partly irrational and lacking in evidence, can carry entertainment value in some quarters, or irritation value in other quarters.
"A wise man does not argue with a fool."
Compassion is a virtue.

I'm sure everyone has heard the saying, " This is the straw that broke the camel's back", well it is. Twice in this thread my name was brought up and I have never posted on this topic. I have been used as the fall guy a punching bag and I'm damn sick of it.
I try to refrain from posting in a lot of thread's here, all the technical stuff about playing. Such as different type's of scale's and the key they are written in, how many beat's to a measure, how long is a certain rest etc.. I leave that to all the other expert's here who have been playing one or two year's, who talk a big story, give Skype lesson's and can't even demonstrate proper bow control or how to do something they can't do themselve's.
Now you have a person who come's in, join's the forum and trie's to discourage and defuse any hope's that another / all the other member's have in wanting to learn. There are no professional's in this forum, with the exception of one (Pierre).
I have never used the term "troll" or called "Composer" a troll and I didn't ask him to show us what he can play or how good he is. I asked him to demonstrate and show us why it's so hard to learn violin. For this my name is brought up and used trying to make me the bad guy here.
I don't care what type of music you play, "Composer", go ahead and play your "Schradieck" scale's, I don't even know what they are, who he is and really don't give a damn. The music in this forum is of all style's and for stringed instrument's, whether they be electric or acoustic. Seem's you have gotten more flack from some of the other member's here than what you've gotten from me.
I will say one thing for you, "Composer", you certainly have a way of drawing attention to yourself, on that, I commend you. I can start a thread and no one even look's at it or comment's on it. You can start a thread of total bullshit and you can fill ten page's of comment's. So I'm finished with starting any kind of human interest thread.
I've noticed that a few of the older established member's have refrained from and don't post as often as they used to and some of them, from the start of this thread have totally vanished, no more to be heard from.
Like I said, "The Straw that broke the camel's back", this is it. I'm leaving the forum and hanging up my fiddle's/violin's. This website is/was the only thing that kept me motivated and like "Ferret" said, if it wasn't for the Fiddlerman website he probably would have quit long ago. Those are my feelings now, I have no more interest in this site at all.
Many thank's and appreciation to Pierre for all he's done to keep thing's going here.
Ken.

Apart fron the personal insults, which I do find a bit spineless using the relative anonymity of the Internet, I have to admit that negativity and doom-and-gloom makes me appreciate why I love learning and playing the violin, warts and all.
I guess most people are practicing all the technical stuff and then posting videos of themselves to get a measure of the results of their practice for feedback.
I have an hour of me practicing 'slides' who wants to see it?

Ken
I never had any intent of using you as a 'fall guy' or a 'punching bag'. I unreservedly apologize if you feel that I have done so. You are one of the most experienced fiddlers on this forum and I'm sure that you are highly respected by most here. I have always valued your opinion and advise.
Sorry mate
And please don't leave because of this brainless idiot @Composer
You are appriceiated here. I am not one for kissing butt, I am one for telling it like it is.

Actually, I need to add an item to the list of what keeps me motivated.
People like Composer help me to stay motivated.
Every time he/she posts about how hopeless it is for adults to try to learn violin, especially on their own, it reminds me to be encouraging to others.
Every time he/she posts derisively about anything but a very narrow view of what music "should" be, it reminds me to explore other genres and experiment with new sounds.
Every time Composer is rude to Pierre or one of the other "old hands" on the forum, it reminds me to appreciate what they share with us here.
Recently, Composer expressed an apparent distaste for electric violins. That just makes me even a bit more pleased and proud to own and play one. I like playing my acoustic too. They are both cool instruments in their own way.
In other words, most of Composer's negativity reminds me to be darn glad that I am myself and not Composer. LOL So it does help with motivation.
The only definite point of similarity that I can see is that I also have composed some pieces/songs over the years. That is, assuming Composer has actually composed anything yet. Doesn't much matter, I suppose, since our musical tastes are obviously rather different.
I am no "virtuoso". Just a musician who has spent most of his life playing. Various instruments and genres, sometimes earning a living or part of one by doing so. I have an Associates' degree in music (not from any prestigious school), and becoming a classical virtuoso is not even on my list of things I try to do. I enjoy being a musician, learning instruments and pieces, playing and writing songs. To me, that is enough.
Best of luck on that "virtuoso" goal, though, Composer. If you make it someday, I'll buy you a cup of coffee. When you're rich and famous, remind me about the cup of coffee, in case I forget.

Everyone has probably seen this before, but I will post it anyway. Sometimes a reminder is in order.

Ken.... Please don't leave.
I responded to threads by Composer with a tongue in cheek. Because normally here in the forum we all joke and have respect... This was the opportunity to write back and kind of let it all out to a person who seemed not to care, so it did not seem harmful to reply. But now I feel awful.
I can hardly begin to express how sorry I feel for the negative impact on you or others members that my interaction with the threads have caused. Truly please stay. Your are the best and certainly a favorite of mine.
Please do as you must but it would be a favor to me if you take one for the team and stay dear Ken. I am very sincere in my apology.
All my best,
Toni

The nice thing about posting a video is that we are not required to hit the "play" button. I think in this case, several of us might exercise that option...
But.... who knows, Terry - you just might inspire someone to work a little harder on their slides, because they: a) surely don't sound as bad as you do; b) might be able to sound that good with a bit of practice as well; c) didn't know there was such a thing as a slide and think your vid sounds pretty cool.
[Note - I have never hear Terry practice slides, so don't know whether he is any good at all. I am just throwing out some possibilities.]
BTW, does your cat join you in the video? that alone might make it worthwhile!

@ Ken:Take it as a honor that you were badgered and hold your head high as a good example of what this place really means for the new beginners... a place of good character, honest intentions, and steadfast resolve to help and assist in any way we can, vs slinkying away into the darkness never to change a beginners life for the good.
Very well said, Dennis. My hat off to you. And Ken, why should you be bothered with an idiot?

Composer - RIPWhat do you call a dead composer ?
A decomposer.
(This posting is fictitious, any similarities to anonymous persons living or dead is purely coincidental.)
Sorry it´s an old joke.
@Donald
It may be an old one but it's a good one. BTW.... I don't know any anonymous people
