I have an hour of me practicing 'slides' who wants to see it?(I can hear the screams 'Noooooooo' from all the way across the pond.
BTW, does your cat join you in the video? that alone might make it worthwhile!

........ The only slides the cat knows are the ones she does trying to get away from me, trying to run on the wooden flooring!
She looks like she's running round a pinball machine when negotiating the dinin table and chairs.......hahaha...... mad moggy!
I am amazed at how old people of my age are.....

C'mon, Ken! Don't leave the forum! =) We love You! Don't take it all so seriously. Your music is so kind and played with love, it tastes like home-made cookies! =) Don't go! Or i'll miss You

Why would i post videos of progress in learning the violin when *NOBODY* here actually wants to learn the violin.
Please, don't tell me what i want, and i will not tell You where to go, Composer.
Fiddlestix would go batty if i posted videos of Schradieck technic exercises. All that boring technical stuff would demotivate the "practical" people here who only want to hear fiddle tunes played badly. I would get nothing but harassment.
I'd like to see You playing that "boring technical stuff" =)

Can we go back to the original topic? I have had a lot of problems arise recently and it has caused me to put down my violins. I need to find a way to get me motivated again. I know I will never play well but I did like to play if only for myself. I quess I'm just caught in a slump and need a way to dig myself out.

Hi Kevin,
Sorry to hear about your current problems not giving you motivation to play the violin. I do hope you'll stick with violin playing! Leave a violin out so you see it when you pass by it, and pick it up and play it, even just for a short while! We all go through slumps and lack of interest, but hopefully it's just a short period then better motivation to keep playing kicks in. Don't give up!

Hi Kevin... Man I am sorry you are having struggles. I am thinking you should pick out a song that you like.... And find a buddy to work on it with you. Even here on the forum... It is fun.. And a little challenge. And you will be good... Don't fret.
Maybe even a little extra challenge... Push yourself to do something that is just a tad harder than you would like.
I surely hope to hear of this funk passing you by. I also hope to hear more tunes from you.
Hang in there.

@kevin-m
I'm truly sorry mate. I 'really' understand how unfair life can be. But the guy just pushed me over the edge.
But having said that, what do you mean 'I know that I will never play well?????????'
You seem to have been listing to people like Decomposer tooooooo much. Come around to my place and I'll motivate you by slapping you across the side of the head with my beloved 'Raggetti'. Of course you can be bloody good mate.
Seen it all. Done it all. Can't remember most of ..... What was I saying????

Hey, @kevin-m Sorry to hear it, but there are good advices from Toni.
I guess we all find motivations in different things. I never felt demotivated yet, but i can tell what motivates me even more that i am, LOL!
First of all - it's music. Whatever i listen, i imagine how to play it on the violin =)
Second - when i see some instructional video - i can't help it - i start to try those things.
Third - this forum of course. When i saw guys playing Swallowtail Jig - i couldn't not to play that tune (Thanks To Diane, BTW!!!!)
It could be anything else - violin performances for example, even if it's twinke variations (which i like to play too, LOL!)
Anyway, i hope You'll find your way to continue playing, Kevin. Give yorself some time and pluck the string... =)

I think it happens to all of us every now and then, Kevin. Stuff happens in life, and we lose inertia/momentum. But music and playing can be very good friends to have when life is dealing out problems. Music may not fix the problems, but if we lean on it when we have to, it can be one of our strengths that we use to get through difficult times.
When it happens to me, I can usually get back on track by just listening to music that I was listening to back when I first started. The stuff that made me want to learn to play in the first place.
If that doesn't do it, my usual next step is I clean or adjust/repair an instrument. "Maintain the maintenance!" Just getting an instrument ready to play it's best can get me in the mood to play sometimes. It might start as something little and simple that is allegedly "Just to make sure everything is right", but it can easily lead into a playing session and that can get the momentum back up.
If I'm still in a slump, I hit the internet or the books and find something new to learn. It can be a new piece, a new exercise, some adjustment to the instrument or anything like that. Maybe think up an experiment to try or some little invention. Any little thing that can change the game even a tiny bit. Maybe go and see someone else play, "live", if you can. Or try a simple song or two out of a genre you don't usually play. Anything like that may give you some ideas.
Next is to get in touch with musical friends. Sometimes all it takes is a few words of encouragement from a friend to keep you going. Sometimes hearing about their projects or what they are working on can kindle some of the old "I want to do that!" fire.
I could go on, but I don't want to risk putting folks here to sleep. LOL Of course, there are more things one can do. Those steps are what I usually start with, though.
