Ok I'm posting it up here instead of on my own thread (like I had initially planned) because it fits here better but yea my timing was all over the place because I got a lil impatient for some parts, also, I skipped the repeat section because that just got boring IMO. drooling Sad Romance - Violin Cover

Very nice Chinny,

I would like to see you work on right hand (you are using the right hand to bow right? It looks like the opposite but it is your webcam right?) finger flexibility. Not because of the sound that you are producing just that your phrasing and bow changing could be better if you worked on it.

Your intonation is pretty good in the beginning but not as good when you play higher up on the E string. It might have something to do with your arm changing positions when you play on the E. Check that out!!!

Thanks for posting

@PKY The song is called "Sad Romance,"

Thanks!

haha there are many roosters here in Phils LOL,

Enjoy the crow while you can, we don't hear it here in the USA. My daughter only gets to see some of the animals at the fair.

My Mom has a Stage IIB vaginal cancer, she need to finish  3 Therapies Chemo, Radiation, and the Brachy. She graduated her Chemo last Saturday, YEY! She's doing great and her Doctor said that she'll be fine after she finished her all therapies, but the sad part is, our money is out because of the of the chemo and radiation they're both payed except brachy, brachytherapy is really expensive. And I don't think that the cancer foundations here in Phils would help us. We are not rich and I cannot buy the fact that money will be the reason for my mom not to have a longer life. Your prayers is much appreciated.

I will pray for your mom and your family. You guys are strong! I'm glad that she was able to have the therapies she needed. Money will come back!

Best wishes!

Yea I bow with my right hand. I'll try and fix it :D Yea when I changed positions on the E string I did it a note too early so I was using the wrong finger (first instead of second finger which is how I usually practise this song)  and I semi panicked and kinda just had to wing it. Keep playing and hope people don't notice. HAHA can't fool FM though but if that was in an orchestra I'm sure someone would've covered for me? Maybe? How would you explain that weird sound when I played an open note at 1:28? I'm fairly certain it's not because of my left hand touching any strings. I've tried to check for that a couple of times but I can't really work out why it happens dunno

Nawww you guys, you flatter me :3 ty ty. I'm glad to know that I've been improving no matter how slowly it may be. To be honest I can't really hear any improvement myself but I think that's just because I'm always listening to myself play.

Thanks bro. Well this is my third time picking up the violin but if you count up all the years individually (even though I re-did the books in a different method), I'd say about 6 years. It's been a long journey for sure.

You have us pegged Chinny, someone would have you covered for sure.
What you hear at 1:28 is the sound of the string not quite vibrating enough. Could be too little bow pressure at that moment. Maybe you could use slightly more rosin. It could be also that your left finger didn't quite press down hard enough on that note. You actually dampen vibrations by lifting the finger slightly or not pressing hard enough. I know that I often say not to press more than necessary but it is necessary to press hard enough that you get a good sound. To illustrate this point test with pizzicato. The best sounding pizzicato will be your open string, then the notes you press hardest on. If you barely press you will get a note that will resonate very little.

Thanks Huey. My bridge just snapped (I've opened a new topic thread about it) so maybe I'll have to rely on my electric violin for now. No more acoustic cry

Rotex, you'll definitely be at least as good as me if not better than me. You just have to stick with it and put in a little bit of effort. I'll admit it now, I didn't really put in all that much effort when I did have a teacher, most people learnt faster than I did too so I have no doubt that you'll get further than me in 6 yrs. exactly

Wow, Rotex. I wasn't even using the bow my first couple weeks of playing. And vibrato already? It took me 2 years to get my vibrato to sound anything close to a vibrato. Amazing! clap

That was a really good cover, Chinny! It was kind of hard to watch, though, because it looked backwards! xD

But like Fiddlerman, I have to say something about your bow arm. It looked a little tight. Relax it when you play. smile

It's really great to see how much you have improved. I love it. The vibrato is coming along fantastically. Keep up the good work.

Plan your phrasing. Sing the phrase (musical sentence) beforehand then try to imitate what you sing on the fiddle. You can also sing at the same time you play. Just not so we all hear it. :-)

Incorperate even more dynamics than you do. I can hear that you are playing dynamics and it really adds a lot to the performance.

Your intonation has improved a lot too. Keep on checking it and play slow scales to warm up while focusing on the intonation. It's a good idea to play the same scales as what you will be working on, for example a C Major scale before playing "Silent Night".

Thanks for the post. Seeing your progress makes me happy.

Your vibrato is coming along very nicely. You seem like you have a lot of patience too which is fantastic. It's something I severely lack. Welldone

Great style for sure and I think you were really trying to feel that song. Your vibrato is so much better than what I have been doing so far.

One thing for sure is you really need to listen and play along to scales. Sometimes a string might be out of tune and a really cool thing about a fretless instrument is you can just slide your finger up or down a tiny bit to hit the note. Ya really need to listen to the song and play along to it. Otherwise you are doing great. Ya just really need to play on key.

Hey, Rotex!! That was nice!! Your vibrato makes me envy!! exactly You're improving very fast.. Keep working on the intonation and phrasing (the last is especially not easy and always a trouble for me, but we can do it! birthday_balloon).
