Today, halfway through my practice session, it was time for them to go. So, with some care and a thin knife blade, I peeled them out from underneath the strings and tossed them. Then I cleaned the fingerboard with rubbing alcohol until I couldn't see any marks where they'd been any longer.
I only "looked" for them a couple of times to be sure of my 3rd finger placement because I have a tendency to "walk" down the neck half a step while playing, and it felt funny on the tips of my fingers for a few renditions, but after that, no big deal.
They're gone. For good.

@RDP - Congratulations. That must be a relief. It basically means that you can grab anyones violin and play.![]()
Hmmm, I think there's a Strad down at the museum. You think they'll let me just 'grab' it?
My fingering went all to heck after I took off the tapes. It's improving and I've got good intonation again half the time on A3. The other 50% of the time it's still so horrible that I'm amassing quite a collection of old worn out shoes from people tossing them into my yard.
